Pretty impressive at first glance. Classy ambience. Upon further look: dusty furniture, dirty carpets, smudged mirrors and glass. Food was average. Petite, overlooked appetizer; decent sized, undercooked entree. Didn't attempt dessert. Satisfied need to support local & international students with their educational pursuits. Gratuity goes to scholarship fund.

Hotel onsite restaurants can be a real crap shoot. If they're even in operation - we've been to a couple of hotels this year where the onsite restaurant has closed.

Audrey's is the onsite restaurant at the Johnson & Wales Inn (reviewed elsewhere), which in turn is associated with Johnson & Wales University.

During our recent stay at Johnson & Wales Inn, we decided to try lunch at Audrey's because it was convenient (it was pouring rain at the time), and because I hoping to enjoy some interesting, young perspective on food from the student or recent graduate chefs.

Staffing problems (mentioned in some other reviews) seem to plague Audrey's - in our case opening for lunch was delayed from 10 am to noon while the restaurant was cleared from breakfast service.

It is a nice room, with comfortable tables and chairs and very quiet. We were the only party in the restaurant for most of our lunch, which meant a quiet restaurant and excellent service.

We started with the cheese sampler - a nice selection of cheeses and fruit spreads. Our entree choices included 2 burgers, grilled salmon, and the maple sausage and arugula pizza. One of the burgers was requested well-done, and arrived rare, and the salmon was a little overdone, both mistakes by a possible newbie chef. The underdone burger was replaced by another entire complete entree, cooked as originally requested. Other than those issues, the food was excellent.

The wine list while not extensive, is very nice and reasonably priced, as are the entrees overall.

We came for the Sunday breakfast/brunch buffet ($19.95). They honored our Restaurant.com coupon. The facility, inside the Johnson and Wales Inn, is very nice with well-spaced table arrangements and carpeting. J & W is a well-known hotel school and students train at the hotel and restaurant. The bill will not include a tip, but a scholarship donation is added. We left $5 in cash as well. There once were cloth napkins, and that’s the story of our meal—it was once much better. Served from 10 am to 2 pm, we arrived at 12:30 pm and were the only ones in the huge dining room. (as an aside, we were told their Easter buffet is no longer served, probably due to lack of customers.) The buffet is not as lavish now. Pineapple juice was a treat—we also tried the orange and cranberry juices-OK. Muffins were good, but the croissant was too heavy, not light and airy. Cream of broccoli soup was tasty and very thick. Veggie salad was mostly fresh and nicely presented. Cold grilled veggies were a good change of pace. Bacon was crispy and well-done, sweet potato hash was very burnt and very good, The carving station offers only glazed ham and it was dried out and bland; probably left over from the night or nights before. The omelette made to order was OK, but there were no mushrooms. Pasta was kind of tasteless. French toast was done with French bread, and very tough. Chicken marsala was good; tender chicken, but strangely it had grill marks and had a good grilled flavor. Sitting in a steaming tray we thought the chicken would be rubbery, but it wasn’t. But grilled chicken must’ve been from another leftover? Honeydew, cantaloupe, strawberries and other berries and pineapple made a nice dessert. Bread pudding and sauce were terrific. Coffee was perfect-strong and robust. Service was pleasant; even tho we were the only diners and there were 3 wait staff, we needed to call them twice. Price was steep for a limited choice buffet and that likely accounts for the empty dining room. Bathroom immaculate. Disappointed and will not return.

Server was personable but flighty. My order was wrong, had to ask three times for soda refill, had to ask twice for condiments and then still didn't bring them all.

We have been going to Audrey`s for quite a few years. This restaurant is run by the students of Johnson&Whales. They have just recently changed the menu with more consumer friendly choices. The food is high quality but not high priced. From start to finish they take great care to make sure you are satsfied. Be sure to check out the wine list. They offer a Ravens Wood red zin. for $15. I had to ask the server if this was a miss print and she said no. This is just one example from the wine list. They also put their own twist on everthing you order. When you get to desert be sure to try the Bananas Foster Ice Cream.
