Marias always makes a good sub. Its a sub shop, if you want atmosphere take one to go and enjoy the harbor across the street. We have subs on regular bassis. They are busy because their product is always fresh.

Been going there for over 30 years and I have always been happy. The Italian is incredible as well as the sausage sub. People that think since they don't offer lettuce that is a deal breaker - those people are nuts. The fresh onions, tomatoes and pickles - especially when combines with their hot peppers, oil and spices makes for an incredible finger licking good sub and still priced right.

Maria's has a somewhat limited selection of subs (they also have pizza, but I have just gotten subs there), but that is in my opinion a strength, not a weakness. Because they only have 10 or so varieties, they make them consistently well. They do not have 100 toppings, only 5 or 6, and lettuce is not one of them. A small turkey sub is $5.00 and is much better than the chain sub-shops.

OMG - no lettuce!?! Well, that's the most common complaint I've seen about Maria's, but lettuce is a personal taste. Personally, I don't care for lettuce on my subs - it's usually not terribly fresh, falls out of the sandwich, and takes up space that could be occupied by the turkey, roast beef, seafood salad (yum!) etc., and if I'm in a shop that does offer lettuce, I opt to leave it off. If "no lettuce" is the worst thing one can say about Maria's, maybe that's just not the place for lettuce lovers to go.
On the other hand, their salads are wonderful - everything is chopped so perfectly, you don't need a knife, and they are very fresh.
Maria's has been open for more than 40 years - still owned by the same family. They haven't changed much in all that time, (or cut corners, or lowered their standards for what they provide) which is phenomenal - how many "little" family owned sub shops (or any small businesses for that matter) have been around that long? And be busy year round? Clearly, they're doing something right. And no - I'm not a relative or a former employee; I just like Maria's subs.
The prices are still reasonable, the food is always fresh, the place is clean, the staff is friendly, and in the summertime you can have a mini-reunion waiting in line.
Finally, if the sandwiches aren't stuffed enough for you, here's a tip: Order a "large (whatever filling) in a small roll." You get the large portion size of filling, the small roll (which is better for you), and it's very satisfying. Yes, you pay the large sub price, but it's still a good deal.
Open your mind, take a bite, and enjoy.

Just not good. Not nearly enough meat on a sandwich and totally don't get the no lettuce thing...
