“Rooms great, food not so great.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2008

We enjoyed our stay at the Dan'l Webster Inn with only a couple of minor complaints. The room was awesome as well as the ambiance of the Inn, the check in staff were friendly and helpful. We had a couple of glitches that keep me from giving it an excellent rating. I used room service and the staff didn't know the menu so I had to change my order because they no longer made what I ordered. When the food arrived it was not what the menu stated but I ate it anyways because I was hungry and tired. My husband and I did not even finish the food because it was not very good. I truly expected a much better quality of food from the Inn, it was a disappointment. When I checked out the staff didn't even ask how my stay was which surprised me. The room was great and the rest of the staff were attentive and great but the food and check out process did not match the quality from the rest of our visit.

We stayed at the DW in September and it delivered across the board. Room was very comfortable, lovely private deck, helpful staff and great food. Only possible criticism was that the dining room was certainly for the older age group - a little bit staid. The pub was more lively. But it was the ideal base to drive around the cape.

Alot of care is taken to keep this Inn looking good. The landscaping and the pool area were amazing. Our room was very comfortable with alot of extra's, housekeeping made sure everything was in order.

The front desk was very helpful and we were given a choose of rooms. The Inn as 48 rooms with 14 different of rooms. We opted for the Fessenden House, which was a old sea captains home for our first night and moved the second night to one of their Jarves one room suites. Both rooms were nicely appointed and clean. You get what you pay more.

The restuarant was wonderful with plenty chooses of menus and diningrooms. The food was outstanding and the service was very good.

Already planning next trip to the Cape.

We stayed at the Dan'l Webster Inn in Sandwich at the beginning of October as part of a Virgin New England fly-drive holiday. Unfortunately we were allocated Room 10 which is on the ground floor, next door to the lift and at the junction of 2 corridors and an external exit door! Consequently every time the lift was used it felt as though it was coming down through the bedroom wall, particularly late at night or very early in the morning when everything else was quiet. We were also disturbed by the regularly slamming door of the outside access. The room also only had one very small window which made it very dingy and dark. It is a room to be avoided at all costs if possible!

Apart from this, the food was excellent, both breakfasts and dinners, and the staff were very pleasant, particularly the restaurant staff. The hotel is in a good location to explore the lovely village of Sandwich and further into Cape Cod. It was also clean and well equipped.

My husband and I have just returned from a four night stay at the Inn.

For the first two nights we had a standard room with a queen size bed. The room was very dark and dingy, the carpet was dirty and we were very disappointed. The bed was really high and difficult to get into but very comfortable once there!!!

For our final two nights we had a very much larger room upstairs in the Jarves wing, with a whirlpool bath and a walk-in shower but the bed was even higher and we had to use the steps provided to get into it!!!! Unfortuantely, nice though the room was, there was no blind at the window and the very thin curtains let in light from the corridor at night. The room was so light that it was ridiculous. We also had light coming in from the door leading to the balcony. The blind that covered the two small windows above the whirlpool bath could only be pulled by walking OVER the bath as the cord had been put on the wrong side!!!!! This was quite a dangerous manouevre to carry out!!!

The swimming pool and the gardens were lovely. The breakfast was very good value for money and we quite enjoyed the food in the Tavern in the evenings.

One afternoon we had a wonderful Afternoon Tea at the Dunbar Tea Rooms, just a few minutes stroll from the hotel. We would highly recommend this.

All in all we were a bit disappointed with the Dan'l Webster Inn.

  • Liked — The swimming pool and gardens
  • Disliked — The dark rooms, high beds and no blinds at the windows.

My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary and were a bit disappointed right off the bat. The staff at the front desk were not friendly or helpful at all. They did not even have a map of the Cape! We ended up going a mile away to the information center in Sandwich for basic questions.
They promote the "spa" so we decided to get a couples massage. I have had better massages in the airport. Not worth the time or money!
Good location and good food - that is about it.
