“Laid back at The Belfry Inn”
Reviewed November 13, 2010

We had a very relaxing stay at The Belfry Inn. It is in a great location in Sandwich, with only an hour or two either side to Boston or Provincetown.

The service was welcoming, making you feel very much at home as soon as you arrive. Chris, the owner, was great in helping us to book trips and providing local information.

The breakfast each morning was good comfort food - French toast, omelette, etc. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the quality of the food was excellent, the service was friendly and relaxed (in a good way). I would recommend The Belfry for dinner alone.

Our room was nicely decorated with exposed wood beams and a large, comfortable bed.

All in all, a very enjoyable stay and I would recommend to anyone. We look forward to returning.

Belfry Inn is a sweet Victorian BnB in a pleasant neighborhood with some nice shops. The beach is not too fare away as well. Breakfast is served and you can decide between two dishes. The quality is good, but the menu is repetitive. We stayed in the pretty small but beautiful “Ida room” in the “Painted Lady”. This is a room with two separated beds. There are tiny little stairs for children going up to a tiny little tower next to the room. Together with the room on the other side of the floor it is ideal for a family. The other guesthouse is totally different and perfect for couples. Many rooms are provided with a fireplace and a whirlpool. The rooms in the church are very unusual with huge church windows.

When you decide on a Thursday afternoon in August that you want to spend your weekend at the Cape, you know that pretty much your only chance of getting into a B&B is to snag a cancellation. By Thursday night, after calling around, the innkeeper at a place we had previously stayed recommended the Belfy as she was completely booked. We had eaten at the Belfy restaurant but never stayed there. As luck would have it, a cancellation had just come in and we were told we could be accomodated for two nights but that we would have to change rooms in between. We always check Trip Advisor before finalizing a decision and the Inne passed muster so we grabbed the reservation. We were given rooms in the "Painted Lady" (a beautiful old Victorian) and we were not disappointed. Though we went into the weekend with a "beggars can't be choosers" attitude, we were treated well, the rooms were more than adequate (though the first one was a bit smaller than we customarily book, but the soaking tub made up for it!) and the breakfasts were out of this world. All staff were friendly and accomodating, we slept well (the setting is extraordinarily quiet, even with the bistro downstairs), and we thoroughly enjoyed our last minute adventure.

Our trip to Cape Cod began with a 1 night stay at the Belfry Inne & Bistro. Since we're just back from living in Italy for 4 years, we thought the Tuesday Room complete with huge stained glass window would evoke our stay in Italy... and it surely did. The Belfry Inne is really lovely, breakfast was delicious and dinner was excellent, although a bit pricey. When asked if we could have coffee sent up to our room after dinner, that seemed to be a bit of a problem at first, but then our request was fulfilled. Strange, you'd think we were the 1st ever to ask that. Wish we stayed longer or could return when it's cold, so could light up the fireplace for a great cozy feel.

The hotel was immaculate. Perfect stop for our honeymoon. The staff were very friendly and helped us plan some days out. The village of Sandwich while small, had lots to see and do and the restaurants in the area are all worth a try, particularly the Painted Lady which is part of the Belfry Inn and was fantastic.

The Belfry is a very quiet and relaxing place to stay, a bit too quiet for us though. We really liked the Inne and the staff were excellent, Chris Wilson (he must have roots in Paisley Scotland) was a very welcoming buddie. The food was great if a little over the top. Sandwich itself is a prim little town, white picket fences are very much in evidence. You can walk the tree lined streets and can be transported back to a previous more ellegant and graceful era, the inne was clean if a bit dated but was in keeping with the buildings and the town itself. A great idea to convert a church (pun intended) into a unique hotel. Lovely. We only had one adverse comment and that was about the town itself rather than the hotel, it just too quiet for a 7 day stay so we left after 6. Cape cod is beautiful though, we thouroghly enjoyed Provincetown and Hyannis which on reflection would have been better bases to explore the cape.

I researched the Cape for a three day trip and just returned. Chris, the owner of the Belfry (a former Catholic church) and the next door renovated Victorian home, was super nice on the phone. I wish I had discussed more with him before we arrived. We arrived at 1:00 and were allowed to check in. We felt that was exceptionally nice. Jaffar was taking care of the lunch crowd, so I was not put off that he wouldn't answer any questions about the inn. The "John" room was clean and quite nice in the Painted Lady. We just made some major purchases and did not splurge on the Belfry rooms. We WILL next time. The only complaints I had were that the window air conditioner was somewhat noisy, but it was battling 90 degree days and pretty steamy nights. It performed well, just noisy. The other complaint was that there were not window shades and our east facing room was flooded with light very early in the morning through very clean white drapes.
We did not eat dinner there. Jaffar, again, would not find time to answer even a few questions when we stopped in for drinks before bed. I just couldn't get any accomodation from him.
Monday morning breakfast was fantastic. Chris had returned and was as nice as on the phone. However, now we needed to race off to catch a whale watching boat and we couldn't chat. Such a shame, but we did tell my mother in law to stay here next weekend when they go to the Cape. I told her to stay in the Belfry to be safe. $300 for one of those rooms would be well worth it. I think I would have been super happy in the Painted Lady had I switched to a different room.
