We stopped here late on a recent Saturday afternoon, finding ourselves in the area and hungry and vaguely remembering reading a positive review of the restaurant. There were a few guys on Harleys lingering in the lot and not too many cars, so we thought it might be just a bar or hangout.
We were pleasantly surprised when we entered. There is a separate bar area and a vast dining room with booths and tables. The Taverna is decorated with all sorts of old items on the walls and handing from rafters....sports equipment, favored collectibles, something for everyone's interest. This gives a hint about the menu, too.
There is something for everyone! Whether it's a thick burger, pizza, pasta, stacked sandwiches, seafood, steaks or other entrees, there is something for everyone! This is a good thing because as time went on, the dining room filled with couples and young families with well-behaved children. When we left, the lot was pretty full!
The menu is pretty extensive, with nightly specials and a Glutn-free menu, too. My husband enjoyed Seafood Diablo, and took home a "doggie bag" of the huge portion! I ordered Scrod on spinach from the Gluten free menu. It was carefully prepared and nicely presented and was the best meal I have had in ANY restaurant in ages!
The waitress was very attentive throughout the meal. At her suggestion we added coffee and a home-made Brownie Sundae which we shared. The coffee was freshly brewed and the chocolate brownie was served warm and topped with a large scoop of nice vanilla icecream.
There are large screen tvs so you can catch the game if you want. And they have live music some nights, too. Although the bar area is visible from the dining room, the noise level from the good sized crowd there never got too loud.
From beginning to end, the Sandwich Taverna was a wonderful surprise and we will definitely return!
