“Learn Something You Didn't Know”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Did you know the Egyptians made glass over 2000 years ago? Actually the Sandwich glass factory was the first to make pressed glass, which was the beginning of mass production which of course the ordinary man could afford. The founder was quite the rebel at the time, but soon was copied everywhere. Real Sandwich glass was only made until the 1880s, so if you don't see it here in this museum, its probably a reproduction. Everything is behind glass, so don't worry about bringing kids, they might enjoy the glassblower. Have Fun!

“Nice exhibition and glass blowing demonstration”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

Every one hour, on the hour, there is a glass blowing demonstration. Since we are in october, we could se how a pumpkin was beatifully made, and also appreciate the complexity of he process. This is the perfect start for a visit of the museum, which room by room takes you through the history of glass blowing in Sandwich, MA (also providing information of the art techniques development in other countries). Information is available not only written by every display, but also with audio and scene reacreations at some points, wich makes it friendly to learn.
There is also a large number of pieces of each technique/shape, in different colors, which makes it a beautiful overall exhibition.
Towards the end of the museum, you will find special exhibits, with some very unique, beautiful.
For us, some glass pieces brought memories of things we had at the places we grew up, and also appreciate the value of hand-made glass ornaments. Great place to visit!

“surprisingly great for school-aged kids!”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

This museum is walkable from the center of town - we paid $14.50 for two adults & three kids (one of whom was either discounted/free because she was under 6), which I thought was more than reasonable. There was a scavenger hunt through the museum for the children, which they loved, and the prize for finding everything was a little bag of glass marbles - so thougtful, and the kids (surprisingly!) loved them. The video at the beginning was helpful, and especially interesting to our 9-year-old. Glass-blowing demonstration was interesting. Their web site advises not arriving after 3:30pm or you won't have enough time to do everything, and I found this to be accurate - we arrived right about 3:30 and by the time we did video, scavenger hunt, demonstration, seeing the museum itself, and walking through the gift shop, it was just about 5pm. The woman at the front was particularly enthusiastic about encouraging our children to enjoy the museum, which I found shocking since it is a GLASS museum, after all (though the displays are all in clear cabinets, so nothing can really be broken). It was refreshing to have a museum welcome our children and not cringe to see us coming, and we had a very nice experience. The gift shop at the end was fully of many lovely glass items.
