The introductory video that shows every half hour shows how the development of the glass industry of Boston and Sandwich on Cape Cod was a direct result of England's severe taxation. We learned so much from the video that all the historical displays were more meaningful. Then we watched an actual demo of glass blowing to create a dish that was fascinating, even when the effort failed, we still learned the reality of how difficult an art it is!

There's a fun scavenger hunt that had children excitedly searching for items. We are glad we went.

We make it a point to visit the Sandwich Glass Museum each year when we come to the Cape. You might think that a glass museum is a risky place to bring two boys (now 7 and 11), but they always enjoy the scavenger hunt and glass blowing demonstration.

This was an interesting place to visit with Lots of glass history to look at. The glass blowing demo was good but could have been longer.

Our package at a B & B included entrance to this museum. We thought it would be a short visit but wow, were we wrong! This was probably the best small-sized museum we've ever been to. We started with the glass blowing demonstration, the artist was quite entertaining. Then, it was off to an excellent introductory film (the special effects were fabulous!). After that, it was peruse at your own pace through the museum...excellent special effects throughout certain exhibits including the use of holograms. There was an additional exhibition while we were there, Sandwich Portraits, but really, the glass work was the star. Oh, there was also a small exhibition of a glass artwork from an artist, I think they change ever so often. Brilliant! All in all, it was such a nice visit that I HAD to buy something from the souvenir store. Haha! Bravo to the Sandwich Historical Society for an excellent museum. Merci! PS - the fee was also very decent for what you get. Well worth it!

We stumbled upon the Sandwich Glass Museum on a exploration trip around the cape. The gift shop is fascinating to see all the things that they were able to do with glass. The dishes were especially beautiful. The tour of the actual glass blowing had just ended, so we missed that, but we were able to watch from behind the window, looking down on the two craftsmen below. We saw them firing and shaping their creations as well as the actual glass blowing a couple of times.
It was interesting, but can only hold one's attention a short time. The store is small, but fun to peruse.
