We love the Captain's House! Have stayed there twice, looking forward to visiting again in August 09. What we love most is sitting in a lawn chair on the rocks behind the house, just gazing at the vast Atlantic Ocean, with the shore birds, boats and crashing waves. You can fall asleep to the sound of the waves, especially if you stay in Room 1 or Room 2, with windows overlooking the ocean. Gretchen is a sweetheart and a wonderful hostess, never intrusive, always helpful. Breakfast is perfectly adequate, a buffet catering to all tastes, and you get to sit at tables overlooking the water, either inside or on the wonderful porch, on a sunny morning. The rest of the day the house is quiet and comfortable, a good base for touring the North Shore.

On a recent adventure to Rockport we happened to discover the Captain's House B & B. Once we walked in and were shown around we did not bother to look at any other inns. The place was perfect. The common areas were very inviting and could have easily convinced me to give up sightseeing and just curl up with a good book and enjoy the in and the beautiful view of the ocean.
The rooms were elegantly decorated with a mix of a warm traditional style and the open airy feel of a beautiful seaside home.
The wonderful breakfast was served on a bright and airy enclosed porch. It was a delightful spot to linger over the paper and plan the day.
The real stars of the inn are the owners. They were very helpful and accommodating, but most of all warm and welcoming with out being overpowering.
I prefer staying at a B &B and have had a wide variety of experiences both good and bad, but the Captain's House is near the top of my list of favorites.

Of the many B&B's we have stayed in over 30 years, this is our favorite. The owners keep the old house in terrific shape and are delightful hosts. We almost always make a couple of friends at breakfast on the porch overlooking the ocean. Love the walk to town. Be sure to have a glass of wine sitting on the rocks and watch the waves crashing around you! After many visits to Captain's House, quality is consistent, and the location is the best.

Situated on a bluff overlooking the ocean, the Captains House is a gem of a B&B. It is comfortable and quiet, with no noise at night except the sounds of the Atlantic surf to lull one to sleep . The couple that run the Captains House are friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts copious and excellent. The center of Rockport is 5 minutes away.

It's a rare situation when the reality equals or exceeds the publicity. The first time I drove in the yard I was just awed. There is nothing between the front porch and the ocean except a bit of lawn and the famous rocks of Rockport. Rooms #1 and 2 have the best views, but all rooms have an excellent view. If you like to hear the waves crashing all night as I do, leave the windows open. There are some wonderful restaurants in Rockport, but my favorite meal is take-out lobster roll on the porch at the Captains House. Gretchen is a great owner. She is informed and present when you need her, and gone when you want the quiet time. A perfect inn.

I, of course, would consider it an HONOR to write a review of your Captain's House...far and away the best vacation spot in MA...IMHO.
My little poem, dedicated to this lovely home, is my greatest praise...

The Captain’s House

Standing at the edge of the world…
Atlast I can breathe.
Misty arms like lace enfold me,
Wrapping heart and mind in peace
I shall e’r return to this place…
Part of me will never leave.

At the Captain's House, our heart is home.
Surrounded by the thrill of the ocean, the smell of wood and clean and quality is everywhere.
The thick rugs, the feeling of warmth and comfort, mixed with old world charm,
soft light and stillness...
The ocean draws us from most every window, soothing and smoothing out all life's emotional wrinkles and promising a beautiful new day.
Though this home belongs to someone else, their home becomes ours for a weekend.
They graciously share it with us and seldom impose on our solitude, except to provide a cozy breakfast, the aroma of coffee and a smiling face.
The Captain's House is the best place to unwind and enjoy the freedom that only the pure joy of an ocean can provide.

I have been twice; once with my mom for a mothers day stay. We both loved it! The rooms are charming and our hosts were attentive. I had plenty of shopping and sightseeing and my mom just loved sitting quietly looking out upon the gorgeous ocean views.I went back with two of my best friends for another stay and we all had a blast! They both intend to return with their husbands because it is very romantic and peaceful. The village of Rockport is close by with great restaurants and many small shops.Take your camera!
