“Beautiful place to have coffee at sunrise”

Love the old fish shack immortalized by many painters over the years, (myself included!) Get your coffee at Dunkin' Donuts about a quarter mile away and then come watch the fisherman unload their catch and the gulls go crazy!

“An iconic building”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

This barn like building that dominates the harbor in Rockport has been immortalized by photographers and painters to the point of cliche. But, like all cliches, it is so striking and charming, that you can't help enjoying taking a look at it. The surrounding town is a honky tonk affair, with some nicer restaurants and a few art galleries featuring quality paintings. As you would expect, nautical themes dominate, and the styles tend toward traditional, representational work. The best part of Rockport, of course, is the people watching. So be sure to plan on spending some time just hanging out in this little town.

“to the east”

How do you review a structure , other than to say that it is a classic and a must see! Most painters, during their lives, will paint this area with the lobster pots and the ocean behind it.

“You have to stop by and take a picture”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

Motif #1 is the most painted building in America. - a fishing shack that was originally built in the 1840's (destroyed in a storn in 1978 but faithfully recreated). Rockport's artist colony at the time often used it as a subject of their paintings. Lester Hornby named it motif #1. Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton honored his hometown of Rockport with Motif #1 in the movie. Look for a picture of it on the wall of the dentists office. What fun it would be to take a picture and have the kids go find it in the movie!
