“Unique Area”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

The hotel is small, 8 rooms, rustic but very clean and the proprietors are nice and helpful as well. The rooms face the water and the hotel is perched on gigantic rocks (Rockport?), a beautiful view. If you want peace while you sleep though, get an upstairs room. If you're in one of the four rooms downstairs and someone is above you, you'll hear them. Also, on busy weekends, getting to the hotel, which is up a pedestrian-tourist clogged road, can be a challenge. Plan on not moving the car after you park in their reserved spaces. Just past the hotel is the end of the road and folks congregate there for the view as well. Again, crowded on some days, peaceful on others.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are best.

Bearskinecklodge, Owner at Bearskin Neck Motor Lodge, responded to this review, May 10, 2014
I am sorry if you were not pleased with your stay. We are new owners of Bearskin Neck Motor Lodge as of 2013 and I am happy to say that each one of our rooms has been updated over the 2014 winter. This includes fresh paint, new furniture, new decor, and new lighting. We strive to make every stay comfortable and we believe that our new updates have only made the Lodge better than ever!

Bearskin Neck is certainly busy in the summer. However, the best part about Rockport-- and the Lodge-- is that everything is town is within walking distance. There is so much to do and you do not even need to get in the car! However, if you do care to see the surrounding area Gloucester is only minutes away.

Sincerely,
Krystle

My wife and I wanted to take a short vacation before the summer ended and decided to head to the shore to enjoy a couple of days of fresh seafood and ocean views. We focused in on the Gloucester / Rockport, MA area - as neither of us had visited the area before. By chance my wife found the Bearskin Neck Motor Lodge. We read the reviews - mostly good to great, and when I called for a reservation I was told that the only room available was a queen size bed in the smallest room they offer. Now we had read some reviews that were not so positive about that room - yet we booked it just the same. Wow, we both are so glad we did. Everything - the location (walking distance to everything in town) - the easy parking (just outside our room) - the welcome we received from the new owner - the hospitality offered, including the invitation for us to sit at the tables on their deck (they live next door), and eat the fresh boiled lobster we bought not 100 yards away at Roy Moore's, and enjoy the view of the water as we ate (they even provided us with towels to use when eating the lobsters) - the cleanliness of the room - and the fine people we met who were also staying there. All of it was great - making the trip extremely enjoyable for us. We would definitely go there again without hesitation. My comment on the small room we stayed in is this - when I have traveled in Europe (France and Germany) the standard rooms there are no larger than the room we had at Bearskin Neck - and some have been even smaller. For those who may have come accustom to staying in over sized rooms found in US chain hotels like Embassy Suites, Hyatt, and Hilton - (and I have stayed at plenty of those too) - well you just might be less than happy when you walk into this room - yet I will say that from our recent experience - you will be out and about for most of the day because everything is right outside your door - and you probably won't be spending too much time sitting around inside the room anyway. It is a small town with a lot of history - and there is no place nearby for a "chain hotel." The motor lodge just fits. We can't say enough about how well we were treated and how great the local food was - and it was all within easy walking distance. Highly recommend this place.

We only stayed for a couple of days;however, the hospitality was excellent. The room was perfect, with everything we needed. The view was amazing and the ocean breeze at night was refreshing. If you plan on visiting RockPort here's a place to stay.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean views. You're in for a treat.

We recently spent one night at the Motor Lodge and had a wonderful stay. The owner Joseph was welcoming and bent over backwards to ensure that our stay met our expectations and that any needs or complaints (there weren't any!) were addressed. Travelling with a toddler, we were made to feel at ease and that he was as welcome as we were.
We were really pleased to support this independent, family-run motel, and hope they continue to thrive.
There is an ice-machine on site, a bakery across the street that opens at 7am, it is mere steps from the shops and is right on the water. Being able to lie in bed and listen to the waves was a real treat.

A perfect location in Rockport, with parking right in front of lodge. We highly recommend staying here. Pick up lobster and chowder to go from Moore's and watch the sunset of the back deck. The walk down 100 feet to the end of Bearskin Neck to watch the moonrise over the lighthouse in the Atlantic Ocean. Breathtaking!!!

We have visited Rockport a bunch of times and didn't actually know this gem was there, with all rooms facing the ocean! Waking up to the sound of the water crashing on the rocks was amazing@! Our room was clean and had plenty of windows to let in the ocean breeze and the sunshine. Shops and restaurants right there and beach nearby. The owners are great people and we will stay here again! Our second consecutive year we visited here. Best location in Rockport.
We parked the truck and carried the kayaks 20 yrds. to put in the water.
I wish there was shampoo in the shower and the coffee was earlier but this is the place to stay when in Rockport.
