“Lovely, grand hotel”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

Sitting on the veranda, overlooking the ocean, time seemed to rewind to the late 50's or 60's....in a good way. Our overnight stay was a real respite. And enjoyed the generous coffee and tea setup in the lobby and the delectable hot breakfast frittata that was included with the room. Be aware that the pool is too small to swim laps.

Room Tip: Ocean view. Much more expensive, but fabulous nonetheless!

My husband & I stayed here for 5 nights and felt sad that we had to leave. The Emerson Inn is in a beautiful setting right on the ocean. The staff are so friendly and the service was excellent. Our room was quite small but was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The headboard was painted like a picket fence with flowers -very quaint. Rockport is a lovely town. Its about a mile and half walk from hotel but not a flat walk. Rockport has some lovely shops and galleries but not too many restaurants. Recommend the Blue Lobster Grill - excellent friendly service and good food. We also ate in the Grand Cafe at the Emerson Inn a couple of times and the food was EXCELLENT!

We had a wonderful 4-day stay at this quaint, " English Flair" bed and breakfast inn. The beautiful ocean views from our room where marvelous, and you could watch the sunrise in the horizon with the ocean in the foreground if you are an early riser.
The screened in porch extension facing the ocean was set up for breakfast and dinner, or you could sit in the Main Dining Room if you preferred. The breakfast buffet that was included was generous and delicious. The home fries where to die for, along with the fresh pasteries and fresh fruit salad. My favorite where the scones.
It's location is a few miles from Rockport Center, where all the shops, stores and restaurants are located.
We will make it a point to return to this gem.

The wedding hospitality provided by everyone at The Emerson Inn By the Sea was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!! From the moment we were greeted by the Front Office, things were terrific. The rooms were clean, and ready well before the standard check-in time. We were never left without coffee, tea or extra cookies. The wait staff at breakfast was most delightful. The entire place was beautiful.

The teams working the wedding, reception and dinner service were phenomenal. The ceremony was spectacular. The view was stunning and everyone was able to hear. The bar service was just as planned. The appetizers were a huge hit. The way the guests were gobbling them down, I'm surprised there were any left for the married couple after we finished all the pictures. But someone had the foresight to keep a few stashed away. Much appreciated.

Dinner and the wait-service was top-notch. The food was as good as I remember from our previous visit. Brian and his team deserve special recognition. The food was prepared perfectly and our guests haven't stopped talking about it.

Melissa was the perfect person to work with through the entire process. From the first time we met, I knew it would be a pleasure working with her. She is absolutely wonderful and has a very unique and calming way to work through issues when the couple get a bit stressed. But it's also obvious she has the support of the rest of the "Inn". With all of them working together, the wedding went off without a hitch. Not even one of our guests has made a single comment on something that could've been better. That's an amazing feat! PERFECTION!!!

I love this place! Location! Location! Location! i have only been in the summer. A full buffet breakfast is included and served on the screend in porch overlooking the breathtaking view. There is a small pool where you can enjoy the magnificent setting. Right next to the property, there is a great walking path along the water. Kids will love the pool and climbing on the rocks.

They are great about letting you enjoy the pool before or after check-out and there is a bathroom and showers on the basement level that you are welcome to use. The restaurant is good and again you can't beat the setting. i like the neighborhood for walking or bike riding. It can definitely work for kids but there are no cooking faciliites.

i love this Inn and so will anyone who loves old world charm. But If you prefer new, modern, fully equipped hotels, this may not be for you.

We chose to stay here for a night in late April while visiting friends in Danvers and Gloucester. We chose it specifically because it was a historic inn and also, of course, because it is on the rocky coast.

Although I no longer live on the North Shore I grew up there, so returning to Rockport always boosts my spirits.

I chose a (canopied) king bed room with spa tub as a splurge.

Because it was chilly that weekend I enjoyed having an ocean view from the room, and the view was exquisite. The windows opened and we kept them open a bit at night so woke to the ocean sound and smell.

In warm weather having an ocean view probably wouldn't be as important, as you would be spending more time on the porch or by the pool, looking at the ocean.

Our room was a bit small, but it had a wonderful feel of another, very decorative age. The bed was so high there was actually a mini wood two step stool to get into it, but thank God we are still young enough to get into bed without it. The mattress was good and the bedding lovely.

The canopied bed had great ornate carvings in the wood. The jets in the spa tub were very powerful, and it really was a jucuzzi in a bathtub, which is not always the case in hotel spa tubs.

We didn't eat dinner here, as there as so many restaurants we love in the Rockport and Gloucester and wanted to return to some of them. We had breakfast at the Inn which was just fine, they do less of a breakfast off season but I had read that on the website so wasn't surprised.

I loved the parlor and dining room. But I could see if you wanted modern, updated decor it would seem dated. I loved the newspaper clips on the wall about the Inn's history and the old photos.

We took a nice walk on the rocks overlooking the ocean past the Inn lawn and played a little horseshoes on the lawn.

And the desk clerk told us the large reproductions in the parlor of the famous paintings of the Franklin expedition to the Arctic were done for a movie set.

This was our second stay at this inn. This time I opted for a king room as opposed to a smaller, cheaper room on the 4th floor. It wasn't money well spent. The room was small, dated and not worth what I paid. The carpets are indoor/outdoor, the furniture is shabby and the mattress was hard as a rock. I don't think the online pics are accurate.
Dinner was OK, although my boyfriend's entree was overcooked. To the restaurant's credit, they replaced it with another, but on the whole the dining experience was uneven. The dining room is VERY dated and service was slow despite the fact that there were maybe 10 tables occupied. Breakfast is included in the room and is average buffet fare.
One star for the check-in which was friendly and helpful. Another for the location which is outstanding. The last for the sense of nostalgia that pervades this place. It is truly a relic from another time. This will appeal to other travelers. We'll look elsewhere.
