“Great beach to kick back or fish for a few hours”

Couldn't ask for a better beach - especially for fisherman like me - I fly fish and I always have caught fish here. Take the water taxi one-way and walk back (~2.5 mile hike) if in reasonable shape - try to time the walk back so it's not high tide!

After a couple hour hike across the breakwater, over the dunes and around the tip of the cape we finally made it to long point light house. It was totally worth the time hiking the whole way we found so many treasures along the way and enjoyed breath taking views all while being on the most beautiful beach with no one else around! So quiet and peaceful!

Long Point is the most remote of Provincetown's three lighthouse. Looking at a map of Cape Cod it is at the tip of the curl. The hike out is a bit of a challenge as it requires hiking the breakwater and then a good deal of beach. Comfortable footwear, drinks and snacks are a must! The breakwater itself is a hike all its own. Today's hike out was just over an hour. I did have the advantage of low tide something that plays a big part. It cuts down on the walk considerably. It is important to be aware of the tides as they can be extreme, up to twelve feet with that part of the harbor filling up quickly and earlier in the high tide cycle. Every year people get stranded. Once out there it is magnificent. Unassuming as it is, its roll in history is huge, guiding boats around the tip of the Cape. The panoramic view is breathtaking and the perspective unusual as you look back on the town from the south east. On a mount, as you approach the lighthouse, is a memorial to Charles Darby who died during WWII.
Long Point also serves as the starting point for the annual Swim for Life held in early September to benefit people living with AIDS and HIV. The swim takes them a mile and a quarter across the harbor to the Boatslip.
It is a very serene and beautiful place and you should plan to spend a bit of time for your effort. Lunch, nap and sun is a great get away from summer insanity! Watch the tides!!

Long point is a looooong walk and for $10 you get a round trip ride on a boat out to the beach, not the best beach for swimming but seals swim around the island and really close to the shore and it was such an awesome experience! Definitely one of my favorite memories of this trip!

A gem! We had a great walk across the breakwater at low tide. Rain did not deter us on a 46 degree winter day. This is a perfect family activity at the road's end. In parts the granite is a bit challenging, so wear shoes with good traction. Probably not great for young kids. Our daughter is 10, and she had a blast.
