The time we spent onboard the Dolphin IX did not disappoint. We took the 4:30 tour. Since it was a windy day, our trip was a bit rough. Everyone was offered complimentary Dramamine as they boarded. We declined but instead took Bonine and no one got sick or sleepy. Since the waters were rough, we all got wet, be prepared.
Each tour has a naturalist on board to narrate during the trip. We were guided by Dr. Carole Carlson. She was extremely knowledgable about the whales that we saw as she has been following many of them for several years..
We saw 2 types of whales on our trip; Fin whales and Humpback.whales. While the Fin whales tend to surface and then dive deeply, the Humpbacks were more inclided to breech all or part of their bodies. We were able to get some great "face" and tail shots. What a thrilling experience!!!
This was definately well worth the money spent to take the tour.

This tour was fabulous! The on board naturalist was very knowledgeable and shared information about the various whales we saw. He also gave an insight on their life cycle and feeding habits. It was a great tour for anyone of any age. Bring a jacket, though, because it is much colder at sea!

Awesome trip! We saw at least 16 whales (that could be identified by the crew) plus many more. We were about 30 minutes out when we saw our first whale it was a Fin Whale. After that, we saw Humpbacks some had calves with them. They were all around the boat the whole trip. I took a Dramamine but had to take another pill half way through the trip due to the big swells that day. Before you board they tell you the condition of the ocean. The guide was very informative. It was cool so a sweatshirt is a good idea. We took both pictures and video. This trip was well worth the time and money.

We went on a whale watching boat trip as a family. We did the 10am trip on a Saturday morning at the end of June.
I booked the trip only and printed of the tickets online, however decided to get some additional information from their office the evening before. A good thing I did as it turns out that the home printed tickets are not the tickets you need to board the ship. THE COMPANY PRINTS THE BOARDING PASSES.
We arrived half an hour before sailing and there was already quite a queue. The weather was beautiful (80F/25C) and the ocean very calm, but we all put a sweater on once we reached the open water. Unfortunately we only saw 3 whales. A mother and a calf and a finback whale on our way back to the harbor. Not a lot and quite disappointing. I also didn't feel the company tried to find more, but maybe we were just unlucky.
It is a trip I would definitely do again; hoping to see more whales next time.

I went on my first whale watch with the Dolphin Fleet way back in 1983. It's as exhilarating now as it was back then. When you see those whales breach the surface of the water, spinning, slapping their tail flukes or pectoral fins, and coming up out of the water, mouth open, to take in thousands of gallons of water and the fish in it, it's an amazing experience.
