Provincetown: INN AT THE MOORS : a great experience

My wife and I spent 3 nights in September at the Inn. The view from the room was spectacular, especially at sunset. Our room was very clean and we loved having a kingsized bed. We also enjoyed the chairs out on the deck to really breathe in the sea air and watch the herons and other water birds.
The breakfast was available all morning 7:30 to 11 and consisted of good coffee, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled egg and a nice tasting pastry. We liked the fact that the food was portable since we spent most of our days on the many nearby beaches.
Without a doubt we will return to the Inn at the Moors. We had a great experience there.

Per recommendation from my sister I booked a week at this Inn this August. What a wonderful place! The people are friendly, the area, gorgeous. I'll return next year for sure. I felt rested, ready to return to the real world after a week. What's also great is that it's a short trip from Boston so it's easy to get to at all times of the year.

A definite thumb's up.

I have been coming to the Inn at The Moors for two years now. My partner and I absolutely cherish this place for its totally stunning view of the Provincetown Bay and the sand dunes. There is no other place in town that has such an amazing view and is so affordable--it is a nice, tucked away little secret that I am happy to tell people about. The sunsets there are unforgettable. We definitely recommend kicking back on the deck. The Inn at The Moors is quiet and peaceful... We enjoy the privacy that the rooms offer while also getting a chance to socialize occasionally with guests if we like in the lobby and sometimes on our deck. The rooms themselves also have an awesome view. We watched the most stunning thunderstorm from the room... just incredible. There is never a shortage of things to look at and be inspired by.

We like the rooms a lot... even before the Inn was renovated this year, we really found them to be clean, the maid service to be good and fast, and we had the right amount of privacy. The mattresses this year are great and very, very comfortable and the air conditioning make for a very comfortable stay. The breakfast is certainly satisfying... coffee cake, yogurt, juice, coffee, fruit, and more... I have come to love their coffee cake... the perfect treat before heading off on an outdoor adventure on the Cape. Herring Cove Beach is just a five minute walk, and town center is a ten or fifteen minute walk... there is plenty of parking... the pool is great fun... now that the Inn has been renovated... the rooms are definitely brighter and sunnier to be in... they definitely feel uplifting as the paint just seems to reflect the sunlight pouring in just the right way. And they feel clean and fresh... the price is a good deal considering you get a private bath, gorgeous view, breakfast, parking, and a quiet place to stay. I definitely recommend staying here... have stayed at many places in ptown, including some of the nicer, expensive ones... and Inn at The Moors is definitely my favorite and comparable to the best--with better prices and a better view.

  • Liked — The view, the quiet, the location, the parking
  • Disliked — Wish they had bath mats...

After viewing the nice looking photos online, I was disappointed when I arrived to find room with nasty carpet, a room that was not clean, and a bathroom that you needed flip flops to walk in.

I would recommend staying elsewhere, even if you have to pay a bit more. Because it felt like something could crawl on me at any moment, I could hardly sleep in the beds.

Let's start with some positives for the Inn:

1) The heated pool was a plus for P-town in the summer, especially if you have children;
2) The location was beautiful with stunning views of the moors, dunes, and Long Point lighthouse. You can also walk out to Long Point from the Inn when the tide is down which is truly beautiful. Be prepared for this walk though; it's over a mile and can be hot and tricky (mostly walking on rocks).

Sadly, we were disappointed with the Inn as a place to stay for more than a night. It has recently been renovated which must have improved it considerably but the cleaning standards seriously diminish this effect. Our room was dusty and moldy, and the bathroom smelled like stale urine and mold, with visible signs of rust and dirt, not to mention several dead flies all over the room. There was an old carpet on the floor which was filthy and smelly, making it hard for us to allow our young son to play on the floor as he does at home.

The breakfast was also disappointing. We were looking forward to fresh fruit and pastries (as the Inn's website promises) but we were instead met with bananas and store-bought pound cakes every day, which might be ok for some but given the price ($159 per night), we expected a little more effort. We ended up getting breakfast in town most days which was an added expense.

Overall, we liked the area, with the Inn being close to a public beach on the grounds of the Provincetown Inn and walking distance to both Herring Cove Beach and Long Point Lighthouse and its surrounding beaches; however, we hope that the Inn's keepers consider ways to make their guests feel more "at home" without having to worry about mold and a dirty bathroom.

The Inn has been newly remodeled and looked wonderful. The owners were really nice. We didn't know how we were going to get to town one night and they gave us a ride to town.

I thought the walk to town was a little too much. We took taxis on the way back from town and it was $8-11 each time. The shuttle is convenient and cheap but it wasn't running every day yet in early June.

They had a nice breakfast of pastry, fruit, and hard-boiled eggs. There was a dormsized refrigerator in the room which was perfect for storing coldcuts, pop and beer for a quick meal.

We spent a lot of time on our little balcony because it was just so pleasant. We enjoyed the view to the moors and the lighthouse across the way. The sunsets were beautiful. We appreciated the restfulness of the place rather than being in town where it was noisy and busy all night.

  • Liked — view, friendliness of staff, free wi-fi, breakfast
  • Disliked — quite a walk from town -- not a problem when shuttle is running

My friend and I stayed at the Inn at the Moors again this past summer for the fifth time in the same number of years. Each year we get to know the owners better, and find new upgrades to the rooms. After staying at three other resorts or bed and breakfast lodgings in Provincetown, we are looking no more for new places. We found our home away from home at the Moors.

We especially appreciate several aspects of the Inn. It is very conveniently located near the dunes and beach, with amazing views of the tides over the moors at the end of the Cape. We can sit on the deck and watch the wildlife, walk out over the nearby breakwall, or hike out to the bay beach without moving our truck.

Compared to many other establishments in Provincetown, the Inn at the Moors is more reasonable, much quieter, easier to navigate, blessed with more space and that exceptional view, populated by guests of mixed backgrounds who are always fun to talk with, and more generous with creature comforts - such as the nice continental breakfast.

The excellent space for parking and flexibility of the owners allows us to trailer in our motorcycles (quiet cruisers) and park them without concern for security. The friendly staff have gone out of their way to keep everything spotless, in spite of the helmets, gloves, etc. in the way. They have even been on the bikes with us.

We know we have friends, and even feel like we are returning to see family, when we plan another stay at the Moors. We have not yet booked summer 2008 but plan to, and know the management will do everything possible to accomodate our schedule and put us in a room they know we like.

Here are a few tips: ask for an upstairs room - the deck will give you the best view and offer a great cross-flow of the summer breeze; keep the camera out - sunsets and moon sets over the moors at high tide are otherwise indescribable; don't miss meeting the owners, the ones in the A-frame above you - the innkeepers are the heart of any inn.

The Inn at the Moors is A plus for us.
