“Great ocean views, food and service”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Cozy restaurant right on the ocean, only a 25 minute walk from downtown P-Town. Dine early (7PM) to see ocean and sunset. Late diners will see a wall of backness!

We were lucky to get last minute reservation for our anniversary due to a cancellation. Luckily, it was at 6:30PM, and our table had a spectacular ocean view during the entire meal, with the sun setting just as we were leaving.

The service was impeccable, and the food was delicious. We started with a dozen oysters, then my wife had the duck breast (smoked) and I had the rack of lamb, both of which were delicious, although I would definitely recommend the lamb.

For dessert, we had decaf cappucino and the pecan/cheesecake pie. The waitress wasn't sure if the coffee was decaf, so she neatly switched them out for the correct ones. Bravo to her for correcting a minor mistake!

All-in all this was an excellent value, considering you can spent $20 on a lobster roll!

The only downside was the constant parade of people looking at the ocean on the deck outside the view window.

“This restaurant is highly over rated”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

The quality of the food was inferior & prices way too high. This place came recommended by a local - there are much better restaurants in Provincetown. Our credit card was charged an additional fee for tip which we did not authorize. The salad appetizer was listed as $7.50 on the menu with an entree, but we were charged $10.50. I would never go back to this place, & suggest that you do not waste your money.

“Lovely setting, fresh seafood”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

(Adapted from review of hotel)

Though the rooms are great, the Red Inn’s focus is dining. Book four weeks in advance if you want your preferred time and date for dinner in high season. The bar and a few high top tables are unreserved, but there is a wait for them on busy nights. Lunch/brunch is served Thursday to Sunday only. A modest breakfast buffet with decent coffee is included in the room rate.

As its setting demands, the inn’s menu features an abundance of local seafood, especially among the starters. I binged on Wellfleet oysters, knowing they had only traveled 15 miles since harvest; they did not disappoint. The lobster salad sandwich was perfect, served in a mini baguette that had brioche-like richness, accompanied with the exceptional house salad (local lettuces and tomato, dried Cape cranberries, toasted pecans, soft goat cheese, light green vinaigrette).

Main dinner courses were not quite as good. Scallops with orzo and citrus beurre blanc were perfectly cooked, but the rest of the dish was bland, with too much orzo and not enough flavor. Pan-roasted cod with lemon confit and Applewood bacon was a touch heavy, with more breading than seemed necessary. The best dinner I had was a seared halibut special served over vegetables. The wine list is long enough (about 75 choices) and wide-ranging enough to satisfy most tastes. We were delighted to find our wedding reception champagne, Billecart-Salmon Rosé, on the list.

“The perfect spot for a romantic dinner”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

The Red Inn is a fabulous restaurant with a view of Cape Cod Sound, a wonderful deck out back and delicious food with accommodating service in the dining room. It is our favorite meal in Provincetown year after year.

“Don't miss the raw bar special 3-5”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

Have eaten dinner at red inn for many years and the experience is mixed, mostly ok over the past few years, although they can be pretty snotty about reservations. However, the best deal int own is to go during the afternoon for the raw bar that offers shrimp and oysters for $1.25 a piece plus other lught fare. Sit near the window, have a drink and gobble all you can until 5:00. Who needs dinner? The wait staff is friendly and fun and so are the other customers. A great elegant but beachy spot with a fabulous view and more parking than most.
