beautiful building, great collection, wonderful staff--but needs some additional comfortable furniture for reading and working at a desk!

The town of Provincetown, along with donations made by locals, tourists, and preservation societies, have brought a once-beautiful building back to its glory while making the whole thing updated for today's uses. The antique architecture showcases modern technology, landscaping equipped for the differently-abled, and the books and periodicals one demands of a public resource center. The staff are well-informed and friendly, and their love of local lore is only matched with their passion for books.

Frequently, on rainy or chilly vacation days, they host book sales from the basement, selling donated paperbacks, hardcovers, film media, even opera librettos, at a small pittance. Always a great way to find obscura or to bulk up on pleasure reads, these sales further help the library.

One caveat to those not versed in library etiquette: kindly put your cell phones on silent or vibrate and wait until you've gone back outside to take your calls. Libraries are used for study, for research, for reading & writing, and one's dinner plans need never become part of everyone else's library experience.

I think this BIG model ship is a hidden gem in Ptown & it was built inside the library itself. Kids would definitely be interested in this as well. It's free to go into the library, so why not?
