Owner description: Marine Specialties has been a Provincetown landmark for over 50 years. Often known simply as "the army-navy store," Marine Specialties is an eclectic treasure trove of salvage, surplus, slight IRs, closeouts, overruns, misprints, mistakes, spare parts, odd lots, cast-offs, and new and nearly-new items. Over time it's grown to be the kind of jumbled, inclusive, and eccentric "army-navy" store Provincetown deserves. Many people young and old call this their favorite shop. History Started in 1961 by Bob and Elizabeth Patrick as a Retail Mail Order business with a small hand illustrated catalog. Marine Specialties evolved into an eclectic Army Navy store during the 1960's.The Patrick's have traveled the world hunting down the unusual and unique. Since 1970 they have supplied other stores worldwide, although predominantly in the US and Japan. Three generations now work in this long established family business Open Daily in season.

Marine Specialties is one of a kind. Sort of like a flea market army-navy bazaar - except they have things I wouldn't know where to get anywhere else. Genuine WWII surplus gear, Soviet era gas masks, and an endless supply of belts, ropes, gear for carrying your stuff, t-shirts, coats, hats, pants. Once every few years my indispensable "man purse" wears out, i get another one at Marine Specialties (we call it "Marine Supply Store"). I've been stopping there every time we visit PTown - for almost 30 years. It hasn't changed. I hope it never does !

Provincetown is a cute little touristy town. You'd expect to find over-priced shops everywhere you walk. You do, but there is also the Marine Specialties shop where you can find funky and fun and affordable things over the huge store. Sun protection shirts, sea shells, nice clothes, funky clothes, duffle bags, old knives, war-related garb, the list goes on and on. It's a little overwhelming but a whole lot of fun. My kids love it and it doesn't cost a fortune to buy things there.

Provincetown's Marine Specialties is a crazy store on Commercial Street. A Provincetown landmark for over 45 years, this store offers so much more than marine supplies. It is sometimes just referred to as "P-towns crazy army-navy surplus store".

The eclectic mix of everything immaginable has found itself at home here in P-town. One needs to take their time to have their eyes adjust to the sensory overload and the assortment of goods... salvage, surplus, closeouts, irregulars, overruns, misprints, mistakes, spare parts, odd lots, cast-offs, new, nearly new and the utlimate in tacky. Its an overgrown mix. Souvenirs, License Plates, Clothes, Dishes, Boating Equipment, Rope, Anchor Chain, Sea Shells... the mix changes every day.

Besides all the treasures the store sells there also is the most incredible assortment of miscellaneous items that contribute to its decor... an in-house tug boat, an ancient diving suit, life preservers from the 1800s, old bicycles, bouys, fishing nets, lobster traps, and so much more, and most of it hangs from the ceiling!

Even if you find nothing to take home (how could that be possible) you will most definitely enjoy your visit to Provincetown's most interesting shopping spot.
