“A Picture perfect sun set”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

Every summer since I was a kid I have been going to college pond. If you plan on sitting outside at night bring lots of bug spray. Staying here is a great way to turn off all electronics and get to know nature. The natural beauty is unreal. The sunsets are incredible. You have to see for yourself.

“Filthy, rude staff, trash everywhere!”
Reviewed July 25, 2011

After many years of camping here, I was really disappointed this past weekend with the Barrett's Pond sites. When we pulled up, there was trash all over both of our sites (used paper towels, McDonald's cups in the firepit, tissues, and trash strewn all over). It was terrible to have to clean up other's garbage when we arrived well beyond check in time and paid good money (especially in this economy) for a clean site. We were also grossed out by the filthy bathrooms and found it cleaner to pee in the woods. The marked trails were all overgrown and our kids were having a very hard time on the hike.

The staff was extremely slow at check in and were very rude when they came by to tell us to quiet down at 11pm (we were playing a board game). They acted like cops and spoke down to us and asked us our age. We are in our mid 30's with young kids who were asleep in the tents, yet we were treated like hoodlums. Meanwhile, the next day, I watched with my jaw dropped as they drove right by teens smoking pot a few sites over. We could smell it and so could our kids - APPALLING!

The swimming areas at the pond were also very dirty with milk bottle caps, plastic and garbage everywhere. There are much better campgrounds closer to us, but we will travel 10 times further and pay twice as much next time to go to a private campground that cleans their sites. It was truly a nasty nasty experience. We will NOT return ever again, nor will anyone we know.

STAY AWAY!

“We Loved Camping in the New Yurt!”
Reviewed July 6, 2011

We entered this HUGE state forest not really knowing what to expect regarding the accomodations. My family has camped in cabins all over the place and has had some good and some bad experiences in the past. This, however, was a GREAT experience. The yurt (Yurt C in Barrett's Pond area) was clean, modern, and huge for the 5 of us! The yurt overlooked the beautiful, quiet lake with a wrap-around porch. The bunk beds (a double on the bottom and twin on the top) fit us all nicely and except for no bathroom in the yurt, worked perfectly for us. We biked, hiked, and swam in the clean pond. At night, we were "serenaded" to sleep by the sound of frogs in the pond. Except for my daughter having to go to the hospital after a bicycling accident there, the trip was perfet. Make sure that you visit the town of Plymouth (Plymouth Rock, Mayflower II, Cupcake Charlie's) and Boston (only 45 minutes away). Don't be surprised, though, by the enormous size of the state forest. It takes a good 10-20 minutes of driving to actually get out of the park!

“Camped on Fearings Pond - it was so...”
Reviewed June 14, 2010

Camped on Fearings Pond - it was so pretty. The tent sites are very close together (at least in group h). Unfortunately, there is no swimming now due to high water levels and bacterial levels. But the views and hiking are nice.
