Owner description: Now surrounded by protective pillars, this unimposing rock was allegedly the first piece of land touched by the Pilgrims in the New World.

If you live in the United States, you are raised with the story of the Pilgrims and Plymouth Rock. You know the story of the rock, so when you finally get to see this icon it may seem quite disappointing. And of course there is more to the story than what we are told and this rock is more of a story than anything, but it is a wonderful moving experience when you look out to the ocean and imagine the journey that finally concluded near the area where you are standing. Then that little rock encased in a large monumental structure becomes that magical story that we all learned about as children.

I had to laugh. I really expected to see a Very large rock by the ocean's edge. I have larger rocks in my backyard. It is worth the seeing from the historical point. The Mayflower II is within walking distance and Plymouth Plantation is just a short drive. They all make the trip to Plymouth worth while.

The title is basically what this is. The plague near it is informative. It is a piece of history plus it is free but it is to me a small bit overrated. X rating 3.5

I really expected something BIG, but the Plymouth Rock is not that big. The plaque by it is informative and the area is nice, just do not think you will see a big rock. For the history point it is worth the stop.

Plymouth Rock is a must-do when you are in Plymouth. It is in the heart of Plymouth, and it will not take much time to take it in. There are constant 15-minute talks by park rangers that really illuminate the story of the Pilgrims. This short visit really showed us a new way of looking at the Pilgrims: this is where the seeds of democracy were planted, and where America actually got started. I never thought of it that way before. It is true that the rock is smaller than what it used to be. This rock is where the Pilgrims' moored the smaller boat they sent from the Mayflower to explore a site to build their settlement. Tremendous history! Don't miss it!
