“Interupted Renovations Sink this Property”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2007

My wife, son and I spent a night here that left us with a pretty bad taste. However, I will try to be fair since accomadations in the area are quite limited.

The Good - The lobby has been renovated nicely if not elegantly.
The second floor indoor pool was warm.
In the 1st room we were assigned and in the room we stayed in, there were new comfortable, but not plush, beds.
There is a Sony CD player and a bag with night masks and a soothing CD(A Crowne Plaza Perk) on the beds.
Staff were warm and friendly but did not know the condition of hotel.

The Bad- Room with 2 doubles is tiny, apparently throughout the hotel. If you're claustrophobic, try different bed choices, which are bigger but not large.
Pool is surrounded by awful looking gate.
A $6 parking fee, while not excessive, is a bit much for Pittsfield.

The Ugly- Rugs in rooms are threadbare and old. In the first room we visited, the rug stunk. In the room we stayed in(we were too tired and hungry to keep trying) the rug had huge stains, some ancient and some new
Hallway rugs seem to be of newer vintage, but stink nevertheless.
The hallways aren't bad in daylight, depressing at night.
Room furniture is scratched and old.
In fact, rooms and hallways need a total re-do. We were told that the renovation, advertised on the hotel web site was "on hold."

We won't stay here again until a complete renovation is done.

I booked this hotel for a short stay with my daughter and one of her friends. It's convenient to Tanglewood and a branded property that was easier to deal with than sorting through the myriad of B&B's in the area. This property is a bit run down and drab albeit with new bedding and sleep aid giveaways. I was disappointed especially after seeing some very positive reviews and being mostly pleasantly surprised by other Crowne Plaza properties. I've decided to cancel a second stay and have booked a B&B instead. If you're looking for a very basic lower cost alternative, it's OK...but I'd probably look towards some of the newer properties now south of I90.

Ideal family hotel due to pool which at a glance looked average size with decent pool side area although I did not take the plunge myself. Staff were pleasant. Air con ,coffee maker, free in room internet and TV with good selection of stations all worked without problems. Bathroom and general decor of the room was fine and my 11th floor room had a pleasant view of the hills. Morning buffet was good selection of standard bulk cooked offerings with fruit and yogarts. Eggs and omlettes cooked fresh to order. Railway is within earshot but very few trains and nothing awoke me during the night. Parking is $6 per day but for that you get covered parking plus you can literally almost drive into the lobby. Located in town and within walking distance of what appeared to be several excellent looking restaurants. I ventured no further than the superb Pittsfield Brew Pub with its tall ceilings and expansive bare bricked walls and of course fine selection of home brewed beer. Can't really compare cost with other hotels in the area but seemed par for the course. I would return.

  • Liked — Downtown location. Everything worked in room.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

The hotel is one of the nicer hotels in the area. However, I would classify it as a high 3-star and could pass as a 4-star hotel. The hotel is clean and inviting. The room is smaller than usual but sufficient. Beds are extremely comfortable. Staff is friendly. All in all, I have no complaints and was thoroughly satisfied.

Met my in-laws for a two night, fun stay. We enjoyed ourselves--drinking at Dewey's and also having their buffet breakfast before check-out. Donna, at front desk, was so friendly and even upgraded both rooms to the Executive rooms. The king room seems roomier and by far, nicer than two double bed room.
Pool was a bit small and is quite old. 6 yr. old daughter tried to swim, but was too cold for her in pool and in the swimming area.

  • Liked — Being near my husband's parents
  • Disliked — The pool was disappointing
  • Tips/Secrets — Always ask about being upgraded to a bigger room!!

We recently spent six nights at the Crowne Plaza, partly at an
Elderhostel held in the hotel, and found the experience totally satisfactory. The room was attractive, and quiet and it was
cleaned well each day. I have no problem recommending it.
