We let TripAdvisor know weeks ago that someone entered the address wrong (off by about 2000km) - Hurricane Heidi's is in Brookfield NS (which is in Colchester County) and not in Colchester in southwestern Ontario. As of today, it still indicates that this place in Ontario. The map, however, was correct. Bizarre...
We just had a very good lunch there. As the name indicates, it's in a bakery. The bakery has been around for over 60 years and is well-known in the area. The Hurricane is the 3rd generation owner - Heidi - who's a motorcross champion and a good cook. The breads served in the cafe are fresh from the bakery. The soup was homemade as were the sandwiches, and they was all good. And it's a short and somewhat traditional menu, but it's not bland and it's not fried, which is what you might expect from the outside if you didn't know better. The mulligatawny soup was tasty and spicy - there was no skimping on the curry in this! The pulled pork was fresh, and the club sandwich had fresh turkey and thick smoked bacon. The service was friendly too, even though it was a little odd that our meals were served 5 mins apart. Fair to say that it's not big on formality, but it's friendly and just plain good.
You won't find many lunch places around central NS that rival this cafe, and it's a great alternative to the other options that are generally freezer-to-fryer-to-plate. Definitely recommend getting off Highway 102 at Exit 12 (Brookfield) and trying this place instead of the fast-fooders at every other exit, if you're looking for a good lunch.
