Description: With the love of chocolate and a loan, we started The Chocolate Sparrow, a simple candy shop, in 1989 in North Eastham. Gradually we learned the art of making fine chocolate and the business of selling it. In 1991 we opened a summer shop in Wellfleet. Two years later in Orleans, we opened The Hot Chocolate Sparrow, a cafe complete with coffee from around the world, desserts of every indulgence, and our own hand-dipped chocolates. Here we could offer specialty coffee drinks in a sophisticated but welcoming atmosphere. We have grown into a local institution, open early morning to late night, every day of the year except Christmas. We created a place where people can connect. Our cafe is recognized Cape-wide, our chocolate is sent all over the country, and our coffee, desserts, and fudge have been voted #1 numerous times in various local surveys. No wonder we are recognized as "The Best on the Lower Cape."

We went here on a tip from a local and were not disappointed. The coffee was great, the treats were great and the hot chocolate was the best ever!

“The Hot Chocolate Sparrow is HOT!!! Please go!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 29, 2012

The Chocolate Sparrow, as the locals refer to it, is a wonderful culinary and cultural experience you do not want to miss when visiting the Cape. It is the "go to" place in Orleans and surrounding area for great rich coffee, cappuccino, latte, mocha, and so much more. For the really addicted coffee drinkers, we can buy rich, fresh coffee beans for our early morning grinding at home. Great breakfast options, especially with the blueberry muffins, croissants, and scones, will start your morning in a most memorable way. Soup and sandwiches are satisfying for lunch. Then, go to the "fudge" counter for the best fudge in New England, maybe the world? And, so many chocolates, truffles, and those chocolate covered cranberries are divine.

For the children, they love selecting candies from the multi-layered plastic candy containers in one corner of the Sparrow. My grandchildren love the "gummy worms and bears" and other multi-colored, sugary and gooey delicacies.

The Sparrow has a constant, great "people-watching" stream of locals and tourists coming and going about their daily rounds. Then, there is the stream of computer "groupies" to connect with the free "wifi" and drink rich coffee for a long time as they fall down the rabbit hole.

Daily newspapers abound for those of us that love to catch up with the news over coffee, trying to slowly wake up. It is the perennial meeting place for families, new dates, lovers, and local business meetings.

And, my bischon Spike, loves the Sparrow as they will provide a bowl of water after our long walk. And, you can buy 'doggie doctor" approved white chocolate covered doggie biscuits/bones.

If you don't enjoy the scene and goodies at the Sparrow, you just cannot enjoy life.

Drive, walk, run, bike and /or skateboard to the Sparrow. Enjoy!

“Two decades in the making”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

As soon as you walk in, to the left you are greeted by large windows and on the other side, chocolate makers! There was one woman who has been working at Hot Chocolate Sparrow since it opened, and was able to make this adorable curly Q design at the end of every pink button she was dipping. Continue walking and to the left you will find a fudge lover's heaven! Large chunks of sinfully delightful fudge tempts you to try more than one kind. Along the back of the wall you'll find seasonal chocolates, from santa lollipops to snowmen. The sweet sounds of steam, coffee pouring and acquaintances bumping into one another fills the air and brings a smile to your face. The menu is simple and has breakfast offerings to quaint wraps. I was impressed with the fresh squeezed orange juice and organic apple juice boxes for kids (or adults!)...We enjoyed our lunch and left with a chocolate dragon for our son, and caramel sea salt chocolates for ourselves. We would definitely venture to this trendy hang out if in the area again!

“Fabulous desserts and hot chocolate.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

They're more than just hot chocolate although it was excellent. I had a peanut butter chocolate dessert that was fabulous. My husband had a lemon tart that was excellent as well. They also had all kinds of pastries and chocolates and coffee/tea in addition to hot chocolate. A great stop for breakfast, a snack, or dessert after dinner somewhere else.

“oh yum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We live in Orleans and this is the best place to go for coffee, coffee creations and smoothies. Service is friendly, altho be prepared to wait during the tourist season. Excellent ice cream as well, available during the warmer months through an outside window.
