Description: With the love of chocolate and a loan, we started The Chocolate Sparrow, a simple candy shop, in 1989 in North Eastham. Gradually we learned the art of making fine chocolate and the business of selling it. In 1991 we opened a summer shop in Wellfleet. Two years later in Orleans, we opened The Hot Chocolate Sparrow, a cafe complete with coffee from around the world, desserts of every indulgence, and our own hand-dipped chocolates. Here we could offer specialty coffee drinks in a sophisticated but welcoming atmosphere. We have grown into a local institution, open early morning to late night, every day of the year except Christmas. We created a place where people can connect. Our cafe is recognized Cape-wide, our chocolate is sent all over the country, and our coffee, desserts, and fudge have been voted #1 numerous times in various local surveys. No wonder we are recognized as "The Best on the Lower Cape."

“Very good coffee and sandwiches”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

We stopped here for a light lunch and had a turkey sandwich and soup. My husband had a cup of hot chocolate. Everything was very good. We came back the next night for dessert and coffee. We had the red velvet cake and it was delicious. The prices seemed to be right on par with other places. Don't forget, a cup of coffee at Dunkin Donuts is about $3.00 and you can go there anytime; this was a special treat while on vacation. We did not have any of the chocolates, but they smelled wonderful.
We were there during off season, so the wait was not too bad.
The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. There appeared to be a lot of locals there. I will certainly go to Sparrows again when I visit the Cape.

“Yum!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

We stopped in here several times during the week after Labor Day and never had any trouble with crowds. The iced coffees are just wonderful, and we made sure to bring home some chocolates for family and friends (hard to believe it all made it home!).

There is free wifi, and is a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The kind of place where strangers strike up conversations easily. The gift shop across the street has lots of cool items and funky t-shirts for sale, as well as more artistic souvenirs.

“Town Center for anyone seeking coffee, chocolate, or human contact.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

All ages seem to find their way to this one of a kind coffee house at all times of year. Be thankful for the time you'll spend in line before you get to place your order, because it will take that long to scan the chalkboard menu and make a selection. Agoraphobics take notice: this place is packed.

“Good/ But Must Like Crowds,Taking a Number + Limited Seating”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

This is a "must visit" at least once for everyone. It is a candy shop/espresso cafe/ice cream haven that sells quality fare. It is on the bike trail, so be prepared for lots of foot traffic. There is limited indoor seating that always seems full and nice benches outside if you can find an empty one. The fare is very good, but pricey. It seems that they have every coffee flavor and extras in the world. The thing that made me decide not to go back is that when you order an ice cream cone you are asked your name. You then stand helplessly in the midst of the crowd getting in everyone's way while you wait 5 minutes for your name to be called. Is this the new age ice cream stand? Also, if you are not able to stand for long periods or unsteady on your feet, it would be best to avoid this place since it is a beehive of activity with limited accommodations for those in need. I'll have to check it out mid-winter to see if it has a more sedate atmosphere.
