“Awesome stay and staff!”
Reviewed August 5, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in a townhouse unit in the G building. There was a king bedroom upstairs with the half bathroom. Downstairs there was a bedroom with two twins, as well as a galley kitchen, full bathroom and living room. It's not super fancy, but it doesn't claim to be. It was homey and clean.
We brought our small dog, and we were going to be out during one day during housekeeping service. The head housekeeper, Melodie, offered to walk our dog while we were out! Talk about above and beyond!!! Carole at the desk was also very sweet and helpful.
We will be back for sure.

May well be cheapest place on island, but have to stay it's probably the least nice place I've stayed in. Rooms okay and nothing bad, just shabby, and bathrooms need refurbs, soap dispenser felt shabby and not very clean, kitchenette, okay, but nothing special. Person cleaning vents outside room very intrusive, but most unfriendly was the reminder call about the check-out time which just was unwelcoming. Coffee $1 was similar, however it's no frills and no smiles and again not bad value.

Thank you so very much for taking the time to leave a review of your stay at The Island Inn. We are sorry that you found the rooms "shabby". As we are a casual, economical, and "pet friendly" establishment our emphasis is on comfort and cleanliness rather than decor. We strive to make sure our guests have a postivie experience. I'll start by saying the not so good stuff. Beds were small and mattress was soft and squeaky. The kitchen needs updating. We noticed the other hotel rooms had better kitchens, we must have been assigned the worst one. The bathroom was a good size but the layout was poor. No shelf to put things on, only a pedestal sink with a mirror which sat on a 3 inch by 10 in shelf. No place to hang a wet bathing suit or a towel. A small towel rack too. Housekeeping skipped our room one day just because we weren't ready at 9:30AM and they never came back. The small refrigerator's freezer had no door and it needed defrosting. Some of our food froze in the fridge including our watermelon which we had to throw out. No kitchen counter space either. One of the beds were right near the door which then had no privacy. The location was not really in the main part of Oak Bluffs (1 1/4 mile away). No place to walk to to buy a breakfast. There was a Keurig coffee maker in the office but they charged for it, all hotels I have been to give their people free coffee. Okay, now the good part. The room was a good size, not too small. Even though it wasn't right in town, you can walk it and there is a bus. Also it made us feel that if we took our car out, going to Edgar town was also convenient. There was a nice tennis court but it seemed to be hard to get playing time. The pool was not too crowded but could have been easier to see (fence surrounded by bushes including the entrance gate). The room smelled clean. It did have a "kitchen". We always found parking by our building (but some of the buildings did not have parking in front). The room came well stocked with cooking pans and dishes, etc but as I have said the kitchen was tiny and there was no oven or even a toaster oven would have been ok. It did have a microwave. There was plenty of outside area to play frisbee or volleyball. I don't mean to sound so negative because our overall experience was good.

Room Tip: I'll start by saying the not so good stuff. Beds were small and mattress was soft and squeaky...

This was the least expensive place to stay on the island if you need two double beds. The accommodations are simple, not a luxury inn but not a flea bag either. The Inn has several buildings. You can check availability online, but have to call to book, so don't be put off by less than friendly or helpful staff - that's the island for you! My first call I was told by a woman there were no rooms to accommodate a family of four. I checked the website again, called back a few minutes later and a man said they did! Building D is great, right behind lovely tennis courts (clay) and facing a large green lawn. The property is set back from the main road so it's quiet, immaculately manicured but with casual garden flower beds, gorgeous! Many inns on the island are right in the thick of it with tons of foot traffic, but this place is close to town but off the beaten path. Even though the parking was full at night, we felt we had the place to ourselves, barely heard anyone else. The room was spotless, big enough for four of us to have elbow room, the kitchenette was a surprise, and the bathroom was clean and bright with new fixtures. The air conditioner was new and worked great. The second night was cool enough we could open our windows and enjoy the breezes and sound of the waves. Although the kitchenette has a 4 cup coffee pot, no provisions for making coffee were provided which was a disappointment. You can pay for a Keurig cup from the reception cottage. The linens were clean, but the mattresses need replacing - not the worst I've slept on, but all of us were sore the next day. The pillows were old and flat. We called to request more at 9:00 p.m. but were told housekeeping was closed and no one had a key to get them. We prepared to make do when 5 minutes later a quiet tap at our door by staff provided our much needed pillows. The Inn is close enough to Oak Bluffs to walk into town if you want to, and an easy walking distance from the public beach which is great since parking is next to impossible on the island. There are rooms directly behind a restaurant (not sure which building that is) so you might want to ask if you don't want to hear patrons of the restaurant. It wasn't noisy the two nights we were there but it was mid week. If you have a tight budget, this is a fantastic find!

We stayed at the Island Inn in early July this year. We had stayed there many years ago in the fall, but had never stayed there in the summer. The place is very friendly (including being pet friendly!), clean and best of all, they have a wonderful outdoor pool, which came in very handy as we were in the middle of yet another heat wave when we were there.

The staff is very friendly and accomodating... They actually brought my dog back to me when he got away! (He's a very friendly, but big and scarey looking Shepherd...)

The room we got was a Queen Suite. It has a queen in the bedroom with a half bath, a kitchenette with a full bath off that, an alcove that has two twin beds and a lovely living room, complete with a fireplace! Well worth the money.

We will be going back every year. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Stayed in D building on 2nd floor. The bathroom was clean and the shower was a nice size. But, the toilet was in a ridiculous spot. The wall was a few inches from my face. Very awkward! Maybe adequate for a child but certainly not for an adult over 5 ft. tall! I cant imagine a 6ft tall person trying to use the toilet. Maybe sit sideways?? Also, the office staff, other than Carol, were useless. Any question you asked them, they had no answer for. Carol, however, was my saving grace. She did whatever she could to help me. It was July 4th weekend and the Keurig in the office was not working, they dont offer any food and there is absolutely nothing anywhere near this hotel. Its in the middle of nowhere. You have to take the bus into Oak Bluffs for a cup of coffee and some kind of breakfast. The bus ride was not very long, but, the wait for it was! In the intense heat and humidity, by the time we got to town, I was ready to drop! The walk from the D building to the road was as long as someone else on trip advisor said it was. Very long! And hot! Maybe ok for young folks but if you are middle aged or not in the greatest shape, look for a different hotel.
