We stayed at the Martha's Vineyard Resort July 21 to 23rd 2017 to attend a family gathering. The building and grounds are quiet and comfortable. The Innkeeper Claudette was very kind and helpful. The continental breakfast is just enough. It is only a few minutes drive to the Oak Bluffs downtown "action". We found good prices in a service called "Your Taxi". 1-800-396-0003. While I'm not sure what all the fuss is about over Martha's Vineyard and I doubt I'll ever return we did have a pleasant stay at the Martha's Vineyard Resort.

This property is not up to standard, over-rated, over-priced and needs a serious facelift - from its' "Inn/keeper"! Find an alternative!!
The sprawling cottage style 2-storey main house occupies a large quiet lot with newly planted garden clusters and features a wrap-around porch with comfortable seating arrangements. However, the brown exterior looks weather-beaten, shabby and outdated. The interior main room is well lit and expansive with a fireplace, multiple seating arrangements, a chess game, bookshelf, magazines and a pool table which is oddly situated next to the breakfast sidebar.
Upon arrival, the "Innkeeper", Claudette was not at the reception so, we searched the grounds and main residence before realizing there was a phone available to contact her. Encountered other living quarters behind the main property, knocked at the open door and called out "Hello". A woman came to the door whereupon I immediately introduced myself. Simultaneously, she had received a phone call from my sister announcing our arrival. A very chilly, aloof reception - not a word of welcome; I even had to ask her name and she never even offered her identification - as the "Innkeeper" and owner of the B & B! Although check in was efficient, Claudette did not volunteer any additional information regarding transportation, amenities, etc...unless we specifically requested same. In fact, when we inquired about the public bus transportation she could not even identify the location of her own establishment on the map!!! Finally, not once did Claudette enter the main room during breakfast to offer a hello or chat. She was basically incognito and unsociable.
Accommodations were clean, spacious with a living/kitchen area, 2nd attic bedroom, storage space, TV, lots of windows, noisy outdated air conditioning units, adequate bathroom, threadbare towels and lumpy pillows. Clammy air quality- our laundry never dried over 5 days. Room attendant service was efficient, however, one day we remained inside due to heavy rainfall and the room was not entirely serviced. We discovered by accident, that maid service was only available until 1 PM. Again, this was due to lack of communication from the "Innkeeper/Owner", glacial Claudette.
Continental breakfast was a daily chintzy cold affair - lackluster presentation, carb concentrated, offerings were all rationed; inferior baked goods; exclusively orange juice, fresh fruit consisted of bananas or cantaloupe (again on alternate days), lacked a variety of protein options (only yogurt or cheese on alternating days) - no boiled eggs /meat? Having experienced many continental breakfasts at different vacation establishments, this was definitely the worst! Then, at the end of the breakfast hour, the serving table was covered with an unsightly white sheet with all the accoutrements poking up like a snow-capped mountain?! Was this a 'subtle hint' to discourage guests from sneaking another humdrum breakfast item?
Although we had pre-arranged our loan of tennis racquets when we mentioned our intent to play, Claudette was sullen and then presented 4 battered tennis racquets. The two clay tennis courts were in total disrepair, with debris, rusty metal hooks scattered about, tattered nets, uneven surfaces, and a rickety wooden referee chair teetering on the periphery. In spite of our grooming the courts with the roller, the surface was unstable.
Thankfully, we ventured out on a daily basis touring the surrounding harbourfront and towns which were beautiful, scenic and inviting, meeting lots of friendly, cheerful warm-hearted folk!

Martha's Vineyard was definitely a big disappointment for me. I so expected more from this trip ! The shopping was horrible and only bought two Yeti cups. The food was mediocre . Most of the shops sell junk, just my opinion. Now, if your into looking at the water, boats, visiting the vineyard and up for plenty of walking, then you'll enjoy it.

A perfect location with beautiful grounds! Suite 7 is a perfect combination of B&B charm with the addition of a kitchenette with a mini-frig & microwave. Thank you Claudette for your wonderful hospitality!

After travelling in from Boston, the peacefulness of this place and this hotel in particular was welcomed. Claudette (as most posts mention) was very welcoming and accommodating, offering advice and recommendations when asked. We stayed in number 8 which was extremely spacious and well equipped. The best thing about our stay here was the opportunity to sit outside, whether it be on the rocking chairs to the front or the seats in the yard, and just relax in quietness. Great stay - thanks again Claudette.
