“Comfortable and accomodating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2013

We spent only 1 night at this motel but I wish we could have stayed longer. We had a garden room which was very comfortable, clean and quiet. We had our dog with us and the management couldn't have been nicer. They even offered to bring our dog to the office and watch him if he became noisy - he didn't, and all worked out well. This motel has a great central location - across from the ferry dock and within a block of restaurants and shops. The beach is right next to the ferry, and the island bus stops right in front of it - so convenient. If you have a pet, ask for a garden room on the first floor - walking your pet is very convenient just behind the motel or up near the ferry dock. You also don't really need to bring your car over to the island - the buses take you everywhere and you can take your pet on the buses if you wish. All in all, I'd go back to this motel in a minute, and I'd stay longer. The staff is friendly and very helpful - this really IS a wonderful place.

Room Tip: First floor garden rooms are very convenient if you have a pet with you.

Stayed here last winter. A man gave me permission to bring my dog. Front office and room were dingy. Bed was uncomfortable. Stayed for two unpleasant days during a blizzard. Stairs were icy and hazardous. No one cleaned them. The worst was when I was leaving I was walking my dog down the icy stairs when a man appeared out of nowhere with a very large dog off leash. I was very scared and my dog virtually pulled me down the icy stairs pursuing the loose dog. I went to the office to check out. There was a woman there and I complained about the loose dog. She rudely said "that dog lives here and we don't allow guests to have dogs in the winter". Funny, that wasn't the story when I checked in. Do not stay here unless desperate. Terrible rude people. Depressing rooms. Noisy.

We are sorry that this reviewer has chosen to wait so many months to write a review; we would have liked to be able to address their issues at the time of his/her stay. Nevertheless, we would like to reply. The comfort of a bed is a very individual thing as some people like a hard bed and some people like a softer bed. We are open year ‘round and pet friendly year ‘round. Yes, the guest’s dog should have been leashed and for that we apologize. We do make it clear to our guests that all dogs should be leashed and under control. And we apologize for any rudeness from anyone on our staff. We are somewhat puzzled about the “don’t allow dogs in the winter” remark as that has never been the case. A blizzard can indeed bring gloom into one’s life. However, we do shovel and salt (with pet friendly “salt”) regularly for the safety of our guests. We pride ourselves in providing a personal touch and making our guests as comfortable as possible. It is unfortunate that we were unable to provide our guest with a more positive experience during the blizzard.

Spent 4 days at the Surfside over Thanksgiving and would highly recommend it to anyone who travels with their dog. Reasonably priced and conveniently located to restaurants, The Campground and the beach, this hotel is cozy, clean and comfortable. At the front desk, we received a welcome package for Maggie, our Boxer, containing some "pet rules" and some treats. Being a dog-friendly hotel, we were prepared for a room that may not be so clean and well taken care of, but we were pleasantly surprised when we got to our room. Our bathroom was a little beaten up, but was sufficient with abundant hot water. We thought that our room would be equipped with a coffee maker and a microwave, but we only had a dorm-size refrigerator. Instead, coffee and tea are abundant in the lobby from 7am to 9pm and we were able to use the mircrowave in the lobby without a problem. We had an oceanview from our third floor room. There is no elevator so if stairs are a problem for you, ask for first floor. Staff are pleasant and helpful. You are allowed to leave your dog unattended in your room as long as it is well-behaved. We gave Maggie a large marinated bone to entertain herself and no one heard a peep from her. We did hear some unhappy dogs for short periods of time, but didn't call attention to it as the owners were never gone too long. Give the Surfside a try!

Room Tip: Oceanview from most of third floor.

My husband and I just spend 2 nights at Surfside Motel for our Anniversary and couldn't be happier with our choice. We didn't bring our car, as it was only for the weekend, so it was essential that the hotel is close to the ferry. The location was perfect, a couple of minutes away ! The room was clean and comfortable, especially the bed!! We got a room on the top floor with an amazing view of the water !Surfside is not just close to the ferry, also a walking distance to Oak Bluffs Harbor, many bars, restaurants, stores...The hotel is dog-friendly, and they had no problem with us leaving our dog in the room if we wanted to go out to lunch/dinner, as long as we left the phone # to reach, just in case. But more importantly, the staff is great and helpful. Will definitely stay at Surfside next time !

Surfside is a great hotel in a great location. I have stayed at the hotel in the past and recently booked it for my parent's wedding anniversary. We all loved our stays. The location is fantastic. It is a short walk from the Steamship and close to many bars, restaurants and shops
.
The room was large, modern and clean. There is free parking which is great.

Above all, the customer service is superb and the staff and the owners are all helpful, inviting and warm. I recommend it without hesitation.

We booked two nights at the Surfside. When we arrived at Martha's Vineyard, we were early but the staff let us store our bags in the office while we walked around Oak Bluffs. First, the location is excellent, just yards away from the ferry dock, yet fairly quiet. We could walk to all of the Lake Ave and Circuit Ave stores easily. The motel courtyard is very pretty, secluded from the street, and a nice place to sit and relax between activities. The room was clean and functional. We could see the ocean from our window. Our two dogs — Chihuahua & Pomeranian — traveled with us, and the staff allowed us to leave the pups in their travel crates in our room as long as we left a contact cell phone number with the office when we went out. Each morning, we would walk across the street to the Oak Bluffs town beach to enjoy the beautiful dawn with our pups.

We have stayed here every year in September for the past 4 years. Every year there are small improvements to the motel. Pet friendly place to stay, helpful staff, and nice walkable location. I enjoy the small, beautifully kept garden. The standard rooms are nothing special but adequate for us and the price is good for MV. Looking forward to returning this year for some R and R.

Room Tip: Three floors and no elevator so if steps are a problem book accordingly.
