Returned to India House a year after our previous visit. This time, we were a party of five - two adults, three teenagers. We were greeted very pleasantly by a young woman whom I believe is a member of the family that owns the restaurant, however, once seated, we waited for 15 minutes then finally had to ask a passing server if we could order drinks.

After that, the service was fine. I had tandoori chicken, which was very good, which also came with a salad. I should have asked for the dressing on the side, as there was just a bit too much dressing on the salad. One of my companions had to ask for the chutney tray, which used to come automatically. The mint dip is delicious. My friend had biryani and likes spicy food, but beware, if you order "hot," it will be very spicy. She took home the rest of her entree so the spiciness could mellow the next day.

One of our teenagers loves the lassi drinks and ordered mango. We also had some naan bread. The prices are not low - our five entrees, bread, one lassi (the other two had water) and two beers came to a total of $160, including tax and tip.

We went to the Paradise City Arts Festival today, and went to have lunch at this Indian Stand that was representing the Indian House.
MIL got the Seafood Sampler (veggie pakora, salad that I can't remember the name of, and this creamy corn thing that I don't remember either, rice) and I got Non-Veggie sample (Garlic chicken, but same sides as the other sampler), we also grabbed garlic naan and a kheer.
We sat out in the cold, but the food was great! Even though the tray seemed small, it was VERY filling. The taste of the oils and spices together were heavenly. This was my MIL's first Indian Food, and she loved it so much, she went to grab their card with the menu and address! She rarely does this!
It's been about 5 hours since we have eaten (we didn't have anything all day besides this) and we are still feeling full and sated!
We will definitely be coming back to the restaurant itself and try more of their food!

We have been going to India House for many years, and I must say that it has had its ups and downs, Right now it is up. Perhaps the owners have become aware that our tastes have changed, and they are no longer "Americanizing" their dishes. In the past, "extra hot" was middling, but now, be warned: They will cook to your specifications. Another reviewer stated that the host, possibly the owner, was not accommodating. To the contrary, we have always been treated well, with at least one of the owners coning to our table and chatting with us. Having lived in New York and London, I would say that this family run restaurant in NoHo is a most satisfactory venue for those in search splendid and diverse Indian dishes.

We ate at this restaurant once last summer. Had a nice table on their patio. Service was good and the food was interesting and well prepared. Since then, we have tried to go back 2x and each time the maitre d' (who may be the owner) refused to accommodate our preferences. Once he wanted to seat us at a cramped, tiny table, too close to the adjoining tables, and we asked for a different table. He flatly refused, even though there were plenty tables, and we left. We tried again recently and asked to be seated outside. The same maitre d' said that it would rain and he can't seat us outside (the wait for the inside would have been half an hour and it was late already). We said that we would be happy to take the risk of sitting outside (it didn't seem that it would rain), again, he flatly refused, telling us how difficult it would be for him if it started to rain. We won't be going back. It seems that it was more important to him to have things his way than to accommodate reasonable wishes and preferences of potential customers.
