For a "Mediterranean" restaurant, a felafel sandwich is the basic test like a hamburger for a diner. Here's the way to flunk that test. (1) Prepare the felafel way in advance so it's dry and hard; (2) after nuking it, dump some cold salad on top; (3) use paper-thin pita bread which tears when the customer picks it up. "A gem"? "You can't go wrong"? How many friends does this owner have?

This is a must stop if you plan on being in the area for at least a couple of days. Northampton is well known for its variety of restaurants, but this is a nice gem. The menu selection is fairly extensive, which should appeal to most peoples pallets. You can't go wrong with going for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I recently had their Pasha omelet, it was excellent. It is made with spinach, mushrooms and feta and is served with a Portuguese muffin and spiced house home fries. You won't walk away hungry or broke.

While I was walking on the street I saw this little humble cafe from the other side of the road...

I decided to give it a try and wasn't disappointed... Very great extended menu and several vegetarian and vegan option available...

Very kind and nice people... I tried the artichoke omelette with ginger reeds brew... I also treat myself with a small baklava...

Very glad to find this little gem... They prefer cash payment (no credit card under $10).

I actually stop uncertain-looking tourists on the street to steer them in the direction of Amanouz or its sister restaurant Mosaic. Amanouz has been around for decades and serves extraordinary Moroccan and Mediterranean food. Mosaic opened up just a few years ago and has a similar menu, but closer to the Mediterranean (more crepes) than Moroccan. Everything on the menu at both places is excellent. Very casual atmosphere keeps the prices reasonable given the very high quality of the food. These are the only restaurants I know where you can go day after day (believe me, I've tested this) and still feel healthy -- lots of variety, lots of vegetables. The perfect place to go if one of you is a vegan and the other a carnivore (especially one who loves lamb!). Also, kids tend to love it.

This place is great for being able to eat meal full of vegetables and other delicious foods, feel full but not like you ate too much. Affordable, small but cozy atmosphere with fairly speedy service. I always go with the lavash instead of pita when getting any sort of sandwich type meal - it holds together better! Love their taboule, the falafel is good but not great. Definitely going to go back for lunch very soon!
