“Fast, Authentic Mexican Food in Western Massachusetts”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Let's get one thing clear. La Veracruzana is not a fancy restaurant, and it is not in California or the Southwest. It is mostly self-service, and the decor is functional. But it is one of the best deals in the area and very tasty for New England Mexican Food. Because they have lots of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options, it's a good place to go with people who have food restrictions. Keep eating there and the owners will begin to know your preferences. It's definitely one of my favorite quick eats in the Northampton area.

“The Best!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

We live in this town and this is a restaurant we go to regularly. Why? Because the food is inexpensive and really good! You order at the counter and "pick up" when your name is called. It is relaxed, comfortable and an easy place to be with family. Great Mexican food with an honest to goodness native Mexican owner who knows his stuff. Go there!!

“A Tad Depressing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

I'm certainly not an expert on Mexican food. Fortunately, I've had much better in the southwest and California, and yes I know Tex-Mex is something different. This was our first experience here, for a quick lunch, and I am not in a great hurry to go back. The chicken enchiladas, refried beans and rice were all right, although looked monotone and a little depressing on the plate. The dozens of paper specials or not so specials taped above the ordering counter were more confusing than enticing. They are currently without a seasonal liquor license. Whatever you do, don't order the T42 Iced Tea/lemonade combo, the blandest least satisfying soft drink we have had in a month of Sundays.

From time to time, I don't mind busing my own dishes, the nearly tin ware utensils, the tired college town decor. But all in all, there are better places to dine on a student budget in Northampton, and if you are not a student, there is little to attract repeat customers.

I hate to knock hard working people, and perhaps other dishes would resonate. But the jury and I are still out.

“Stopped eating here 3 years ago”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

I did return once with a Spanish conversation group from my language school, and the food was below average. I suspect New Englanders eat here because they've never had good Mexican or New Mexican food. I guess it's "authentic" -- they used to have papusas, a thick corn "tortilla" filled with cheese, and those were good, as papusas go.

I've had enough bad food, seen enough unclean bathrooms, and had enough orders misunderstood that I'll return here only if friends insist -- in fact, whenever anyone suggests the place, I suggest 5 other cafe choices, and inevitably we end up dining elsewhere.

“Better than any Mexican restaurant around”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

The food was delicious.. There was a great selection of different salsas.. The decorations were really cool.. Most importantly you could tell the food was made authentically and with love.. Better than Taco Bell.. Moes.. Chipotle.. Authentic Mexican cuisine at its finest...
