“Wonderful bike and pedestrian trail”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

I have biked and walked the entire length of this trail a number of times, and been on some sections many times. It has some beautiful scenery in some parts and is a wonderful way to bike from one section of Northampton to another. There are bike shops near parts of the trail as well as places to buy food nearby.

“beautiful changing vistas”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

Biking or walking this trail any time of year is a lovely experience. Trees changing color arch over the path, views of pastures and fields, distant mountains alter as you walk or bike. One caveat: the trail, which they will re-hab soon, has asphalt mixed with broken glass, which over the years has come loose and can do damage if you ride a racing bike (not a more hardy bike, though).

“Norwottuck and Manhan Trails”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

These trails follow old railroad beds. I have ridden from the Amherst end to Easthampton, and Leeds. There are more trails than the ones shown on the City of Northampton maps. The network is worth exploring. It's a great place to ride. There are a lot of great places to visit adjacent to the trail.

There is a break in the trails at Woodbridge Road in Northampton. The Manhan trail heads south, and the Northampton trial heads west, on the west side of the tracks. There aren't any signs that I have seen. The Northampton trail also extends west beyond Look Park, but isn't shown on maps I have seen. It's south of Route 9. I don't know where it ends.

“Norwottuck and Manhan Trails”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

My intention was to go from Look Park in Northampton to Amherst on the Nowottuck Bike Trail.
I left the Look Park area -(note: free parking is on main St in Leeds and is a 2 minute ride on the trail to Look Park). I followed the bike path signs and ended up in Easthampton. It turned out to be a great mistake - it is an 28 mile round trip ride. The trail passed thru downtown Northampton and went to Easthampton. On the way back from Easthampton,at Rt. 5, (just one store below the Stop & Shop), you can get on a short dirt path and connect to the Norwottuck and go to Amherst - adding another 20 miles! That makes a 38 mile ride on the rail trail...safe, all different views - a casual ride. There are places to eat, grab a snak, go to the bathroom or enjoy scenic vistas..

“A moderate exertion bike and walking trail.”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

If you're looking for a nice, realtively flat trail to bike or walk, this is the one. The trail currently extends from Northampton to Belchertown for approximately 12 miles one way. Most of the trail is shaded on both sides with breaks for meadows, homes and commercial development every so often. Lots of wildlife can be seen here, including an active family of beavers on one of the wetland ponds. At the Northampton end, the trail starts out by crossing a bike/pedestrian bridge over the Connecticut River. There are a couple of businesses at about the half-way point which provide bike services, ice cream, food, etc.
