“Great Family campground”
Reviewed October 19, 2009

I have stayed at this campgound since the early 80's. It is clean, and well run. The owner really does a good job in this area. IF YOU WANT TO PART ALL NIGHT THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU.The staff does enforce the quiet time after 10:30. At 10:30 the place generally does quiet down. I have seen people get tossed out who just would not adhere to the rules. As for ealier reviews stating that pink slips are given out for the smallest infractions that was true in the summer of 08. There was a woman working there who took her job way too seriously. I know friends whio set there campsite up the same way fo 20 years and she tried to have them move things. Guess what ,she is gone ! I stay for 3 weeks every July into August and can't wait to go back next year.

I have to say, after reading these reviews I was nervous to stay here. Everyone in the office was nice, no one bothered us at night, and the beach was SOOO close..(and free to pedestrians). There are some nice places around to pick up seafood (2-5 minute drive)..We only stayed the weekend....I wish we stayed here the whole week...

We have been camping at North of Highland for the last 15 summers, and thought that was kind of impressive until we checked out this year and greeted our replacements, who have been camping at North of Highland every year since 1968! It's clearly the kind of place that inspires deep affection and loyalty.

We love this campground for its family-friendly atmosphere (did I mention there's a playground and a rec room complete with ping pong for those inevitable rainy days?), its low-impact ethos (no hookups means no RV's, just tents and pop-ups), its firm commitment to sensible quiet hours (SO great when camping with children), and its friendly and accessible staff. (What other campground do you know that staffs their office 10 hours a day and takes messages for campers?) The amenities (camp store, little laundromat, flush toilets, and the aforementioned showers and rec space) are all there when you need them, but mostly the campground is set up to let you live the sweet and peaceful outdoor life.

Surrounded by National Seashore land, this family-run campground is uniquely positioned to give you the best of both worlds... North Truro is just a few miles from P'town and the Provincelands bike trails. We bring a kayak and bikes and find that we head into town only infrequently, because between the woods, the ocean, the Cape Cod lighthouse, and the Highland Links golf course (the next road over!), there's plenty to keep nature-loving campers busy.

Head on over to my photo journal of our stay this year if you want to see some happy campers: http://bit.ly/nofhighland

Next year we'll be at sites 35C&D for the first half of July; if you come, stop on by and share a camp song or two!

My family and I have been camping at this campground summers since I was 11 (since 1983). My parents now spend half the summer there and my sister and I bring our families for our vacations. We have made many close friends who camp the same time each summer. The campground is very family friendly, strictly enforcing quiet time rules 10:30 pm - 7:00 am, with no pets or motercycles allowed. It is quiet, very peaceful and clean. There is a camp store and a rec-hall for playing pool, ping-pong, or sitting at one of the many picnic tables playing cards or some other game. On raining days there usually is a fire going in the large fireplace. There is a laundry room and even a playground for the kids. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful! They also quickly deal with individuals not following the rules, especially when those individuals are negatively impacting other campers. The bathrooms and showers are very clean. I highly recommend this campground!

The owners/workers at this campground were absolutely ridiculous. We stayed there the first night they were open- there were absolutely no people around us whatsoever, and after harassing us for talking quietly after 10:30 they put a family directly next to us, like they were pushing to kick us out! One of my friends got there at 3:30 in the morning so did not register his car- the owner was at our site first thing in the morning handing out a "pink slip" because it was not registered. If the owner was awake at 3:30 to register the car, it would have been taken care of obviously! The prices are ridiculous. It cost $184 for 2 sites for 2 nights. They KNEW that it was a party of 6 but still, upon check-in, were oblivious to that and charged us more the next day. They should learn how to read their reservations better when their customers actually get there. We left a day early because it was so horrible. They basically said they didn't want our business. If you are looking to have any sort of fun on your vacation, don't go there! It is a rip-off, they are rude, and they will over charge you. The owner and the office manager are two horrible people. Only good thing was being 1/2 a mile away from the beach!

The manager was the rudest person ever! Everyone there was very rude and made us feel unwelcomed. They overcharged us too - they charged us for an extra night that we never agreed to. We went to the office to try to straighten things out and get our money back for that night, but the lady at the desk put words into my mouth and refused to give it to us. When we complained to the manager that we were never staying there again he replied, "That would be better for us." That is no way to treat customers! I swear these people just wanted to steal our money. They gave out pink slips for the smallest, stupidest reasons (not having our car registered and for talking only a couple minutes after quiet hours started) and threatened they were going to kick us out! The place is such a rip off anyway! We ended up being charged $154 for 4 people at one site for 2 nights. Anyone could get a better deal at a motel! With better service, friendlier employees, and many more accomodations! We thought this place would be great because we go camping every summer and it's always a great time and this place was really close to this beach, but this was the WORST weekend getaway and the WORST camping trip I ever took in my life! And it was all because of the owners/managers at this campground!

Tent-camped for two nights in August 2008. The staff was friendly, the lavatories clean and the shower house looked like it had been 'detailed.'

Our tent site was very quiet and immaculate (as were all that I saw). Campers seemed to embrace a Leave No Trace attitude. The campground enforces a No Pet/ No Motorcycle rule. We were quite happy with this arrangement. Additionally, there are no hook-ups for RV's, so this is a great place for tenters and pop-up campers.

Parking was available near the trailhead to Head of Meadow Beach (part of Cape Cod National Seashore). The beach itself was a half-mile walk away through scrub pines. Surf was good, beach a wide, white sandy strand. Great for kids, lifeguards on duty till 5PM.

There is a wide selection of dining options nearby - in North Truro, Provincetown or Wellfleet.

I would highly recommend North of Highland Campground.

  • Liked — Low-key and specifically set-up to attract campers.
  • Disliked — Hot water in the lavatories would be nice!
