“Poolside wasn't what we expected”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2008

Unfortunately due to booking late in the season, we were only able to get a room on the poolside. I was told by the staff, along with information on the website, that these rooms were just fine, quite nice.

We got a room on the second floor, close to the pool. One bed is in the front of the room next to the large window and the other is on the back wall. The only way to get a breeze is to open the windows and the curtain but we couldn't leave the curtain open because everyone walking by sees directly into room right at the bed. The windows in the back were directly over the exhaust fan for the Top Mast Cafe and they came on at 6:30 am. The beds has rubber mattress covers on them so between the lack of a good breeze, sheets making noises everytime I moved and the exhaust fan coming on at 6:30 am I was a bit disappointed.

The room was clean and tidy but the noise from the kitchen and the lack of air movement was a drawback. Also, the refridgerator had to be turned up all the way to get anything cold.

I cannot speak about the waterfront rooms but heard they were nice.

The outdoor pool had high contents of iron so it looked green. It is also outdated but there is a sign posted saying it will be rebuilt next year. The indoor pool/spa was very nice, very new and quite impressive.

The beach was nice but slightly eroded. Also some seaweed but none of this deterred anyone from swimming.

Provincetown is very close and the shuttle is quite convienent. The National Seashore beaches are beautiful and worth going to.

All in all, we got used to the room and slept ok the last night. I wouldn't rent again on the poolside though.

This is a fantastic place to stay if you want the full cape cod experience. Its close enough to access the great shopping and night life of Provincetown by shuttle or quick car ride, and it leaves you close enough to the rest of the cape to go exploring and private-beaching. The rooms are just enough to keep you comfortable, and having the bay right outside your porch door is the best for those lazy afternoons you want to lie on the beach but don't want to go packing and looking for one. (There's a convenience store as well as quick and easy food down the street for those lazy days too!)

  • Liked — Its close to everything you need. Its great for staying in OR going out.

We would recommend this to anyone who wants a true Cape Cod experience. This is one of the most cleanest, friendliest, and comfortable places to stay. The owners and staff really know what they are doing when it comes to taking care of their guests.
They make you feel like part of their family. The buildings and rooms are very well kept and the view is breathtaking. I would give this resort an "A+++" You and your family will have the vacation of a lifetime at this resort. We will come for another 10 years!

Sometimes staying at a Resort is more about the people than the accomodations. Yet the accomodations were great and the rooms have been remodeled and we just loved the new look and cleaniness of the rooms.

I proposed to my wife on the beach at TOPMAST at our 1st stay at the resort. Adrienne who helps run the resort said to us if you ever decide to get married let us know we can help. Little did we know what that would mean.
In October 2007 we decided to get married on the beach at TOPMAST. As it turned out the weather did not cooperate with us and we were a little disappointed but TOPMAST took that disappointment and turned it in to the most special event of our life.

The owners of TOPMAST offered us to have the wedding at their house. We were blown away at the generousity of this family run business. Our wedding became so special, the house was something out of the "Rich and famous". Adrienne, their daughter, volunteered to take pictures for our wedding with her daughter on her hip! This was the most generous thing ever done for me and they made my wife's day the most fantastic experience ever. For a bride to have her day made so special by the generousity of people you never knew just is beyond belief.

We're looking so much to our return trip to not only enjoy the accomadations at TOPMAST and also spending some time with this family who runs TOPMAST that gave us something we can never properly repay.

One more thing the pictures that we had taken by a family member were destroyed at a photo center by accident so the pictures we have all 101 of them taken by TOPMAST is what we have for that special day.
Thank you so much TOPMAST for a business that is run by giving people.

My wife and I went for Labor Day weekend and it was great. The room wasnt the greatest thing I've ever seen but it served its purpose. The people at the hotel were very helpful and curteous (they let us check in late -after midnight- and didnt give us one ounce of trouble) The location is also great. Its just close enough to get the 10min shuttle ride to Provincetown or whereever you want - there is a shuttle station right outside your door.

I gave it above average for the really nice room we had in Building 2. The little deck was very nice and we were close to the beach. The only problem was that every evening near sunset my husband and I would try to go for a romantic stroll on the beach together and we kept being really annoyed by the 3 ATV's screaming around up and down the beach. Since I don't think anyone would come with those 3 machines my husband and I think one of the Topmast owners was the culprit. It really annoyed us to be paying this much money to put up with that kind of noise every day. They are in most sunset pictures we took.
Like I said the rooms were very comfortable and roomy and done up very nicely. The outdoor pool was full but nice. We were told that an indoor pool was going in soon.
It had beautiful views but the ATV's kinda killed the mood for us. We might go back again after trying other places first.

We would like to reply to this review to explain what happened in more detail. We had a family stay with us and they brought their own ATV’s for their family’s use on the beach. They had contacted the Town of Truro and were told that since their ATV’s are registered and insured they would be allowed to buy vehicle beach passes to ride on the beach during specific hours of the day (that’s why they were riding around sunset time, when vehicles are allowed). However, since reading this review, we have contacted to Truro Beach Commission to clarify the exact portions of the beach that can be used by ATV’s and other 4 wheel drive vehicles. We found that the area in front of Top Mast is indeed off limits to such vehicles and there is now a sign indicating this. During the limited hours that vehicles are allowed on the beach, they must ride to the left of the motel on the open beach area. In the 37 years we have owned and operated Top Mast, vehicles on the beach have never been a problem and we don’t anticipate much of a problem in the future, but as always we encourage our guests to let us know in the office if something is happening that they are not happy with so we have a chance to correct it immediately. Our goal is for every guest to enjoy their time with us at Top Mast!

Clam Bake on the Beach - this year marked our 14th year going to Top Mast Resort; it also marked my Husbands 40th Birthday. Combining the 2 seemed like a great idea and we weren't disappointed. The family owned business went out of their way to help me and 40 friends and relatives book rooms, plan a surprise clambake (with their resident restaurant owners and party planners PTown Parties), and also helped to pull the fire permits and do all the right things to have a successful bonfire at the end of the night. We had 45 adults and 15+ kids and everyone had a blast. The rooms are right on the beach, we ate our lobsters sitting at the picnic tables watching the sun set over the bay while the kids played on the beach well into the night. We have always enjoyed the Top Mast and once again were not disappointed. Location, Location, Location and a wonderful personal touch - perfect!
