“Great stay (again)”
Reviewed May 7, 2014

I must confess we (2 adults with 2 young children) are a kind of SSC addicts, and I can't recall the exact number of times we stayed at their lodges. We tried to find alternative accomodation for our (summer) holidays, but we decided to stick with the Club because we simply love the well equiped and spacious houses, the golf course, the swimming pools, the tennis course, the friendly and helpful staff and of course the Dordogne with its casthles, markets, caves etc.
Is there a down side? Yes, but these are just minor; some lodges have steep pathways or gardens, and aren't therefore very suitable for small children or people with difficulties with walking. It's probably best to contact the reception before making a reservation, as they're willing to provide advice. The restaurant serves good quality food for fair prices, but opening hours are typically French; an early dinner at 6pm is not an option. On the days I don't feel like cooking, we'll have lunch instead and a simple meal in the evening.

Two families stayed here during the summer holidays, our friends with their two children (10&14), and us with our 10 year old son. It was a non iPad, non, x box, non TV holiday and we had an absolute ball. The cabin was great, shared pool. The downside was the price of food and drink at the clubhouse, also getting onto the driving range was difficult as it was packed. The resort is a good 15 mins into town and the clubhouse shop isn't well stocked, so make sure you take plenty from the supermarket. The fun was non stop we played rounders on the course at dusk and the kids loved it. We spent much time on canoes, and exploring caves. It's a great action holiday and we loved the based we will return.

We are regular guests at Souillac Golf and Country Club and have previously stayed during Autumn when the weather is usually still good, the resort fairly quiet and the golf course has plenty of tee times available.

This year we opted to stay during the 1st week of June and fortunately for us, we chose the warmest, sunniest week of the year. Blue sky and sunshine for the whole week and no rain, despite the fact that the previous 7 months had been absolutely dire according to many local people that we spoke to.

There are a number of houses situated in different hamlets, dotted around the golf course, each hamlet having its own swimming pool. The homes are privately owned and therefore decor may vary from home to home. We have been very fortunate and have stayed in some very nice homes in different hamlets, although our favourites are those situated in La Vallee, which have stunning views and are more peaceful, located a short walk away from the clubhouse.

The homes are very well appointed with everything that you could wish for from a holiday home. The quality is very good and prices for hire of these homes are very reasonable.

The golf course, according to my other half is 'challenging and you have to hit fairly straight as there are narrow fairways and deceptive greens'! It is a lovely course and very picturesque. Having walked round the course with him a few times, it is fairly hilly so physical fitness is required, or alternatively you could hire a buggy. We think that the hire costs for the 'voiturette' are on the high side but this seems to be the case throughout most courses in France. The other thing to remember is that the French do play slower golf and do not always allow you through, therefore you may be waiting to tee off. In some ways this is good as it allows you to enjoy the views from the golf course.

The resort is set about 15 minutes away from Souillac town and a car is therefore recommended to travel to the many sights that are accessible from here as there isn't that much else within walking distance of the club. There are many pretty towns and villages in this part of France that are well worth visiting.

There is a clubhouse on site which now prepares breakfast, lunch and dinner. Having previously had some poor quality meals there, we are delighted to say that the director of the resort and management team have appointed a new chef and new staff this year and the food is of a much better standard than ever before. We had a few lunches and an evening meal there, all of which were very good and tasty. Prices are a little steep, but it saved me from cooking!

Alex, the waiter, is fluent in English and French and completely had his finger on the pulse of what was happening within the bar (his domain!). Excellent, attentive service from him and a welcome addition to the clubhouse.

The resort itself we feel needs a little tidy up, as there are a couple of things on show to guests that could easily have been (discreetly) hidden. We would hate to see the place that we have come to love be let down by overlooking some basic things such as maintaining the golf course fairways and tidying up the surrounding grounds, but perhaps we are nitpicking and being fussy!

We are planning our next return visit and are thankful to the owners of these lovely homes that they are willing to share it with us. We just keep coming back for more......
