“Delightful - especially if breakfast is your favorite meal of the day”
Reviewed June 9, 2008

My husband and I went to Porches for our year anniversary. I still can't spot raving about the following:

*A-mazing breakfast. All natural, tons of variety, high quality, and they even give you coffee to go cups with lids. You don't need to make a Starbucks run after staying here. Please, please try the homemade granola along with the fresh baked croissants.

*Modern, deluxe bathroom. Fabulous and a stark contrast to the rooms, which were a bit like a shabby chic version of grandma's attic. Great products great towels.

*Beautiful grounds, well manicured, delightful flowers.

*The pool and hot tub are open round the clock. We even got in during a rain storm.

*Conveniently located next to the MoCA!

*If you like to sit outside on the porch, you're in for a treat. Rocking chairs are placed every few feet for your convenience.

Just keep in mind the bedroom part of each unique room is comfortable, but far from modern.

Happy Anniversary and thank you spending it at Porches! We're glad you enjoyed our breakfast - we work hard to offer the freshest, healthiest items which we source as locally as possible. Many of our bathrooms offer huge old-fashioned clawfoot tubs so request one if you didn't already have the pleasure. The pool IS fun and popular year-round - if you enjoyed it during a rainstorm, you should see how fun it is when the snow flies! (Don't worry: our heated patio will keep your feet warm.) Be sure to check out our bonfire pit the next time you visit; it's the perfect spot to enjoy some cold libations while toasting marshmallows...

We visited the Porches for a quick overnight and enjoyed it. I will not repeat the comments previously set forth except to say that we found the décor, the architecture, and the atmosphere to be relaxed and fun. I felt as though I was on the set for a play by Tennessee Williams or Eugene O’Neil.

A couple of observations. The pool is small, and 4 or 5 people will make it feel crowded. The hot tub was also somewhat small. However, it was never a problem when we were there, and the evening hours make the pool and hot tub a wonderful place to sit and watch the stars on a pleasant evening.

Our room was very well done, the bed was comfortable, and everything worked well. The toiletries were the same brand as we had in our stateroom on the QM2.

We were only there for one night (we filled a “hole” to get around the 2-night minimum) and it was disappointing when the room was not ready, even by the check-in at 3:00 p.m., and we were not even offered an apology. But we whiled away the time by the pool and it worked out acceptably.

We ordered breakfast in the room (a nice option) rather than going down to the common rooms for breakfast. It was, indeed, delivered in a lunch box and was good, although some napkins would have been appreciated – we used a towel – and there was really no place in the room with enough space to set it up.

It is a fun and interesting inn, though, and we would go back.

I love your description of Porches' decor - may we quote you?!? Please accept my sincere apology for the wait on your room - and thank you for making us aware of the issue so that we may address it with our staff. I'm glad you relaxed by our pool in the meantime and found the inn to be comfortable and interesting. There is an exciting event taking place over the next few months in North Adams: the Down Street Art project, a four-month celebration featuring four new art galleries throughout North Adams' downtown area. A total of 15 art galleries are participating in addition to MASS MoCA -- there will be a map available at Porches to get you on your way to checking out this dynamic contemporary art happening. Hope to welcome you back soon!

This s a lovely 'art hotel' perfect for visiting Massmoca. The decoration of the rooms and buildings are great fun; the beds are very comfortable. The bathroom is superb - virtually perfect with superb condiments.
The continental breakfast is of a high standard including fresh grapefruit, good bread and cheese. However I do feel their cereal range was a little 'naff' - should a sophisticated hotel only have kellogs cereals? I expect a little better.
The all year swimming pool was too cold to use, and the hot tub was only lukewarm. But there was a nice little sauna.
But overall a really good choice and the Massmoca is brilliant!

We came out to North Adams from Boston for a quick getaway for some fresh air and an event at Mass MoCA (along with the art, of course). I had been pining to stay at Porches for a long time and finally got a chance to this time. It was fantastic!

The front desk person was cheery and gave us an overview of all the amenities on site - heated pool and hot tub, sauna, complimentary breakfast in the morning, gazebo out back, free wifi in the rooms, DVDs for viewing, etc.

The room itself was eclectic country in decor, but with all the modern amenities we've grown accustomed to in newer hotels. Our room was amply sized with a very comfortable bed, a separate living room and a large bathroom with great products, good lighting and a separate shower and tub.

All in all, staying at Porches helped make our escape from the city pretty perfect.

My husband and I just spent a relaxing weekend at the Porches Inn. The winter special for a suite was a good deal, and the rooms were beautiful, funky and comfortable, but really elegant at the same time. The staff was pleasant and helpful at all times. We had so much fun hanging out in the hot tub in the freezing weather with snow flurries swirling around us. MassMOCA was amazing, ( the Jenny Holzer exhibit alone would have made the trip worth it ) and the food at the Cafe Latino restaurant inside the MassMOCA complex was terrific. We took a walk around the town, and like other reviewers said, there wasn't a lot to do, but the people we met were friendly and the buildings and view of the mountains were lovely. We can't wait to go back again and see what it's like in the summer and fall.

  • Disliked — would have been nice if the bus from NYC went directly to the Inn

I just returned from a very pleasant and relaxing night away wiht hubbie. The trip really exceeded my expectations. To be honest, I had no expectations for North Adams. We spent about 3 hours at Mass MOCA and most of the remaining time at the hotel, in the jacuzzi, in the lounge or in our room watching a movie. It was an ideal, blissful, relaxing night away. The only downside was the street traffic, so try to request a room off the street, but other than that, the fitness room, bathroom/bed, and breakfast were all wonderful and highly suggested.

I didn't know that much about North Adams when booking my latest trip to New England. But MassMOCA appealled so I decided to stay at Porches Inn. To be fair, I should have done more research.

There is absolutely nothing in North Adams other than MassMOCA and the Porches Inn.

The Inn is lovely - my room was nicely decorated, if a little kitschy in spots. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that you can buy virtually everything decorating your room!

The bathroom was incredible - a real highlight. Spacious, beautiful decorated, beautiful toiletries and robes....I had one of the best baths of my life!

Breakfast was good - nothing cooked or particularly special. Internet access was handy.

All in all, a very nice place to stay but probably a bit pricey for what it is.
