Historic Valley Campground
Reviewed August 3, 2011

This use to be the most wonderful campground to bring your children and create memories that would last your life time, a place to meet and make new friends for seasons to come.
This year the campground is under new management and I only hope like many other campers that we had spoken to while at historic valley campground. That the city( which owns the campground) or the committee over seeing the campground are seeing and hearing all that is going on at what use to be a beautiful relaxing place to vacation.
The new management and certain friends from the seasonal which have all moved to sites across from the new beautifully remodeled bath house at the front of the campground, away from the seasonal part of the campground.
This and other issues with the new management have caused a very tense atmosphere in the campground for all to become part of if you stay for more than a couple nights. Certain older children are out of control, physically and mentally intimidating younger kids and children.
The two dogs that bark 75% of the day belong to the family running the campground, but the manager is only available certain hours briefly during the day so she can rest to prepare for her night job in VT.
The remoldeled bathhouse was beautifully done by a near by high school.... Congrad's on a job greatly done.
If they were clean and the showers had some kind of privacy, like even shower curtains instead of nothing for others to walk in on you accidently while your showering it would be nice.
All in all, after 3 children and on my 4th and 25 yrs of camping here I' m sorry to say I think it time to find another place to make those memories you look back on.
Even no memories are better than BAD ones !!!

This is a very nice campground with very nice facilities, but the new management has a lot to learn about how to be friendly and hospitable to its visitors. This was our first visit here after it was highly recommended by relatives who have been staying there for the last few seasons. Upon entering the check-in office, I told the clerk that I was there to visit two families camping there together. He totally ignored me and kept his attention on searching New York Yankees products on the web. After then saying “Hello?,” he turned to me and made several comments about his search results instead of asking how he could help me. The sites turned out to be almost directly across from the office and definitely within eyesight of it, but he never pointed them out to me. Instead, he directed me to park in the parking lot we had passed coming in (because of the limit of 2 cars parked at each campsite) and to walk to the site instead, even though we were practically there and there was plenty of room at the site and we would only be there for an hour or two. While there I noticed other nearby sites that had more than 2 cars parked there. In previous seasons, the family I went to visit told me how hospitable and friendly the owners were and how much they enjoyed staying there. This year they have decided not to camp there again for as long as the current owners are running it. This is unfortunate, because it is a really nice place otherwise.

This lovely campground in the Berkshires is under new management this year. It is situated on a lake, with many seasonal and some summer sites available. It has a new bathhouse, and is convenient to North Adams downtown and stores.
What made this visit so unpleasant was some of the actions of the new proprietors, which first included not being able to find a reservation down payment, telling us that we had the incorrect confirmation despite producing the receipt, forcing us to wait 35 minutes to set up as they tried unsuccessfully to navigate their computer software, and then becoming very belligerent as we again attempted to explain that 2 nights bill minus one nights prepayment should equal one nights payment due. After that was straightened out, we were serenaded with the shrieking sounds of 2 of the proprietors' dogs, which would not have been tolerated if done by the campers. In addition, when guests tried to come to our large site, which held an only RV and two cars, they were told that they needed to park in a far away lot, despite one of the passengers being 92 years old and other, smaller campsites holding 4 and 6 cars with no question!!
This is not the kind of treatment which we have received under the previous operators, and we will make it a point to camp only at destinations where we will receive the same respect that we give to others.
