The museum is unique and will challenge your mind. Many are fearful of or confused by contemporary art - this place will calm and enlighten.

“Wonderful contemporary art in old, converted warehouse”
Reviewed October 10, 2011

This is a great use of old warehouse space with huge rooms to display interesting, sometimes unusual modern art. There are no permanent collections, so over the years when we visit, everything is new. Do not miss the Katharina Grosse installation covering large spaces using vibrant colors--a terrific exhibit. The museum had 65 artists follow the instructions of Sol LeWitt to redo many of his intricate geometric designs--there is a major part of the museum dedicated to LeWitt. There is a cafe where on a Saturday a local group was playing music.

The museum participates in Bank of America VISA Museums on Us--if you have that card, admission to the museum on the first weekend of every month is free.

“Do not leave the Bershires without a visit to Mass MOCA”
Reviewed October 7, 2011

My second trip to Mass MOCA was for a bluegrass concert held in the very cool courtyard space outside the galleries. The music was terrific and was supplemented by food and drink from local establishments including Berkshire Brewing Company. the breaks in the show allowed time to visit the outside exhibit space including Michael Oatman's suspended airstream trailer installation. On the way to the trailer the old boiler room is a work of art in itself. Also not to be missed it the entire 4 floors of Sol Lewitt inside and some newer provocative work in some of the very large exhibit halls. This is a terrific museum any time of the year and worth seeking out if you are in Western Mass.

“Go to the MASS MoCA. Do not miss it, whatever you do.”
Reviewed September 23, 2011

Simple superb. That's all there is to say.

The layout of the museum is a little confusing, with access from one side to the other only at second floor level, but that's my only gripe.

I was a bit doubtful about going, having visited the Museum of Modern Art in New York recently, which bored me to be honest, but the MASS MoCA is far from boring. Go and see it - you will not be disappointed.

“wonderful museum”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

It was worth going out of way to see this very creative museum. It brought life to an old mill town. The space is large so they can present oversize works that were designed for the museum, The staff is young and full of enthusiasm.
