“Smallish rooms, tiny bathrooms”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

I stayed for 2 nights while traveling for business. My room had two beds but was best suited for a single person, as it had only two small drawers for clothes. The beds were okay, pillows, marginally okay. My room had a small fridge, but it is hidden behind cupboard doors, so I forgot to clean my stuff out. The bathroom is as small as it could possibly be. The business center computers worked well. USA Today is free and available in the lobby. The pool was nice and the fitness room, adequate for my needs. The restaurant food was overpriced, even for a city hotel. Since we were in a blizzard, I went to breakfast in the dining room and was told, the buffet only was available, $16. The waitress came right away and asked if I wanted OJ but didn't mention, $4 extra. So my breakfast of oatmeal and fruit, coffee and OJ cost about $20.

Room Tip: During a snowstorm, ask for a river facing room. Much quieter. The snow clearing goes on all night.

The Riverbend Restaurant is in need of a MAJOR fumigation. What an horror show as clients were having lunch--and fruit flies were having a convention, hovering above our wine glasses and salads. It was like the flies knew when to land; when the wine arrived at the table. The waiter acknowledged there was a problem. Nothing was done. I suggest the Newton Board of Health inspect this restaurant. And we were staying at the hotel too. Makes us think, what is flying around the Executive/Club Lounge?

Room Tip: No so much a room at the hotel. It was the Riverbend Restaurant with the fruit fly problem.

Green Features: The need to spray........big time. So what if the chemicals are not good for the planet. Flies in a restaurant is not a good thing.

The Marriott at Newton has a pleasant staff that makes the best of their surroundings/hotel.

There's not much to do in Newton, but that's about the only downside. The restaurant/bar is has some good food options (but not great); however, they do have award winning clam chowder that you need to try. Rooms are spacious and there's a scenic lake behind the hotel.

Also, they have a very good workout facility that is better than most Marriott Property's workout rooms, so take advantage of this ammenity if you get the opportunity.

If you have to stay in Newton, this is the best hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that overlooks the lake... you may/may not be disappointed, every once and awhile you...

I've called this hotel 5 times already (TODAY) trying to get a receipt emailed to me. I keep getting transferred to a voicemail. The last time I called I refused to be sent back to the voicemail pit of death and actually got a person. Was that person helpful? No..."I'll send the receipt in 5 minutes" she says. Surprise surprise I still have nothing. Don't stay here if you need to expense your trip or you'll end up paying out of pocket for it.

Nice hotel about 20 minutes outside of downtown boston. This was a business stay as the office I was visiting was in Wellesley. Bar and restaurant on site. Bed is very comfortable....pillows a bit thick. Room fee was rather steep and double what a coworker of mine was charged on the same date.

Very convenient to Minuteman National Park and train is nearby for trip into city if you want to avoid driving in. Can't beat the free parking and room rates much lower than the Marriott in the city. Down side is the hotel is in a residential area off the Interstate so not much to do there. Typical very good Marriott service and comfort.

We went to Newton, Mass because my husband had a conference at this Marriot property. The front desk staff was very hospitable and friendly, but when we got to our room we saw that they had not honored our request for a King size bed. Instead, we had two double beds. We did not ask for another room because it was 9:00PM when we checked in and we were pretty sure the King size rooms were probably taken. We had a restless night's sleep trying to sleep in the double together. The next night we just gave up and each of us slept in our own double bed. The bathroom was not made for two people to get ready in at the same time. It wasn't completely clean, the top surfaces were clean, but the apron on the sink, the wood part in the front had toothpaste or something from other people before us. We had one caffeinated coffee packet in our room, which seems a little stingy especially since there is theoretically room for 4 people in the room. We asked the second day for an extra coffee packet. Our room had a floor to ceiling window that was not very well insulated, so it was cold when not in bed. It seems to me this hotel may cater to conferences, but not necessarily to overnight guests. We ordered room service for breakfast the one morning we were there and it did not arrive on time. On the paper it said that if they didn't have it there on time it would be free, but they charged us for it. The wait staff that brought our breakfast was so polite with a smile, although obviously out of breath from all the breakfasts he was delivering. He almost ran out of our room. We didn't complain because we didn't want him to be in trouble, obviously a staffing issue, not his fault. I would never bother staying here again unless a conference is scheduled.
