When we want to "go out for ice cream," we don't go to Cabot's or JP Licks, we go to White Mountain Creamery. It has a nice, old-fashioned ice cream shop character that the others lack. The friendly owner often serves and can remember orders even from a few days ago. The place is somewhat quirky and on the walls are scenes from Newton's past. Eating outside in front of the shop is nice, though it could use more tables, but the warm woods of the interior are equally inviting. As for the homemade ice cream, it is great with lots of flavors some changing daily, and there is a large selection of ice cream cakes for special events. All in all, if you seek the true ice cream experience, to stop by for ice cream after a meal or movie, this is the place in Newton to go. Good atmosphere for dates.
