“All I can say is YUCK”

Russians seem to love this place. All i can say is that I do not and ICK. Strange yucky looking Russian food that you too will be scared to put in your mouth.

“interesting food, empty atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2011

I can't recall the last time I ate russian food.
I had an appetizer of eggplant and nuts, and it was very good. Service was quick. Place was empty, and felt a bit sterile/old. Not quaint old. It was clean, and maybe it would have felt different if there were more people. We went on a thurs night.
Probably wouldn't return anytime soon.

“Stay Away Please!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2011

Went here with my wife to try some authentic cuisine of which I am a big fan...what a disaster and nightmare!! First, it was very cold so my wife tried to keep her coat and bring it to the table. The staff said "NO, you are not allowed to keep your coat, you MUST check your coat" After arguing with them for 3 minutes we finally let them take it, and guess what,..you have to "pay" to get your coat from the coat check!! What a racket!! Next, there were waitresses hanging around the bar with nothing to do, scantily clad in fishnet stockings and short skirts that would make one wonder the type of folks they are trying to serve. Third, the basement dining has no windows at all, so you feel like you are eating in a dungeon. Last, the food, ah yes, the food. Not bad actually. Authentic Russian dishes but nothing to brag about. The atmosphere is horrible, and I would never go back. The service was not great either. Stay away please. I will never return. Probably the worst dining out experience I have ever had.

“Not friendly (if you're not Russian)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2009

We've tried this place twice, and the experience has been the same both times: All right (not extraordinary) Russian food-- very authentic, nicely presented, a bit on the heavy 7 salty side. They always seem to be out of desserts (unless you're a "regular", it seems). But there is always a noticeable difference between the way they treat their Russian-speaking guests (who often sit at big tables with large parties) and the rest of us. The former seem to have all kinds of attention lavished upon them; the latter barely get a greeting at the door, and the most cursory service. It's a shame, too, because it's a rather charming space, and the area really needs a place serving decent Russian food.

“Our fellow Bostonians, beware!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2008

We, residents of Greater Boston area (8 of us including 3 guests from another state), made reservation in advance at St Petersburg restaurant in Newton, Mass. When we arrived we decided to have just light refreshments. While we were eating, waiter offered us to order a main course, assuring that they will serve us quickly. Unfortunately, we listened to the waiter and followed his advice.
After 40 minutes since we put an order, main course has not
been served and we asked waiter if we can cancel the
order, because we didn’t have time to wait much longer.
After consulting with manager, waiter assured us that food will be served in just few minutes. And, again, we believed them, which was a big, big mistake.
Finally the main course was served to us only after almost 1,5 hours after the order was put in and the main course was served cold.
We asked waiter to speak to a manager to express our anger
and dissatisfaction with the service, but were told that
manager is “very busy” and cannot talk to us. As a result - we have had a whole evening ruined. We chose this restaurant because we read a good reviews about it in Boston Magazine but, apparently, that information was outdated and far from the truth.
Our fellow Bostonians, beware! If you don’t want to ruin your evening, waste your time and be pushed around – DO NOT GO TO RESTAURANT ST-PETERSBURG!!!
EVER!!
