My husband and i tried the new Cook. restaurant in Newtonville. It was super. Nice casual restaurant with a super menu for sharing appetizers or going with an entree. The place is new so no surprise that the service is catching-up....nothing major just. Try the NFC and the flat-breads.

Have been to this restaurant twice. In every case the host, server and food was excellent. Still working out the kinks with overall wait staff and rhythm of the serving of drinks and food. Wonderful beer and drinks list, food quality is fine, and options for vegetarians and a bit for vegans. This is a definite winner.

Went last night with one of my girlfriends, had drinks and apps at the bar. It being a new place, packed at 7:30 and they said a table wouldn't be available for almost an hour, no problem, we liked the vibe and the crowd. Had a great bartender Mike, we had cocktails and then wine. Ordered the Clams in a bag, really nice batter on them and you could actually taste the clam. Then got the mushroom flatbread that was outstanding! We will definitely be back. I want to take my husband now that I know he will enjoy it as well!

Cook is a great bar! Cook is delicious restaurant! Cook is a fun casual spot! STOP! You're both right!! ("Both..?")
What a wonderful discovery in the middle of Newton. This newly birthed spot is an obvious hit - and not because of hype. This is the real deal.
It's usually a good sign anytime a menu has too many tough choices to be made. You'll most likely be happy to be frustrated by Cook's options, so many different and tasty-sounding delights.
Ironically, the one item we chose - suggested by our friendly bartender/server - was about as far from tasty-sounding as you can get - Kale Salad.
"Seriously...??! Kale salad??"
It was awesome! In fact, when a fellow bar diner received his Bolognese - along with it's magnificent operatic aroma - my reaction was more about planning for the next visit than regretting this one.
As with a lot of popular spots, the noise level was a bit much at its peak. But the array of menu choices - and price levels - more than makes up for a little bit of happy din.

Wonderful to have a new option on the "menu" of restaurants in Newton. Big sister restaurant, Tryst, in Arlington has a great reputation, and Cook.com is already buzzing, reservation-oriented and we were there on an early Tuesday evening. Menu is high-end, creative pub with some great looking entree options. Decor is primarily industrial cool (aka noisy), but has a great vibe both in the restaurant and bar seats. Wait staff and manager couldn't have been more attentive and pleasant. It was girls' night and we tried an order of the truffle fries, split a plentiful kale salad and each had the flatbread special with a broccoli rabe pesto and soppressata that should have been shared. All were delightful. The house wines were excellent (chardonnay and pinot noir) with a decent pour.
Predict it will be a local favorite.
