Lumiere is very nice, with an excellent wait staff and many interesting and delicious upscale dishes at every course. We have dined there several times over the years. They focus a lot on local ingredients. We went there last week for our anniversary. The menu was nice and they had some interesting specials which were well-described, including the price point for each. Unfortunately we ordered the one off-menu entrée that we weren't told the price of, but we weren't worried since the others were all comparable. Big mistake. We ordered the "rib-eye steak for two." Ok, how bad could it be ... it's a rib-eye. The bill came and our entrée for two came in at a whopping $73 ... with no sides except pomme frites. The steak was tasty and cooked correctly, but nothing to "write home about" ... and certainly nothing so wonderful as to justify the exorbitant price. It put us off. In an area with so many great dining choices, it will certainly be a while before we give Lumiere another try ... and we'll know next time to ASK.

I love the ambiance of Lumiere: the quiet, well-spaced banquettes make easy to have convivial conversation with one's party without feeling that the whole restaurant is listening and the food is wonderful -- and seasonal. Kudos all around.

Went here on a whim on the night of our anniversary. One of us was supposed to make a reservation, but we failed and neither of us did. The hostess found us a table very quickly and took our coats. I had a fish dish and my boyfriend had duck. They were both excellent and well presented. For dessert we had Greek yogurt panna cotta, where the yogurt was homemade in nearby Belmont, MA. It was delicious and really creamy, and I thought about it for days after. The chef was gracious and gave us a sample of their exotic mushroom. The service was great, and I would definitely consider coming here again.

We new live out of state and always come when we visit Boston. The food quality is outstanding and the service is personal. The room is quiet enough for easy conversation at the table. The wine choices are excellent and reasonably priced.
