“Thankgiving!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2014

We have been going to Mission Oak Grill for the past 3 years for Thanksgiving. They have a special menu for the day (as well as their regular menu) and we have always been very satisfied. The turkey is moist and tender. I love the spinach side. The wait staff is attentive even when busy. The cooks, in the open kitchen, do a great job turning out orders in a timely manner and always as ordered. We are looking forward to Thanksgiving 2014!

“A Steakhouse That Stands Out in the Area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

We certainly have all of the second tier, chain steak places in our area. We are also fortunate to have this one really good option nearby. The restaurant is a refurbished, old church, that you can pick out on the street, but the inside has been so cleverly redone, you might not recognize it as a former church. It is very classy and distinguished looking as soon as you walk in. The atmosphere is formal, with an emphasis on dark wood, but fun at its core. The overall ambiance may be a little dark for some, but truly ideal for romantic types. The menu is quite varied, but we generally go there for steaks. I favor their rib eye. It is consistently tender and is always cooked to perfection. I am not a fan of their Stilton potato, as I find the blue cheese taste to be too overpowering. Laura likes the filet. Both the regular and petite are winners, and are always silky smooth and complemented nicely. The salads are all good and come with great, in house dressings, but if I had to pick one it would be the petite greens. The drinks menu features some house concoctions, that are well worth trying. They do tend to be on the pricey side. The desserts are all very good, and we may have room for them about half of the time. We do always listen to the dessert specials just to see if there is one that might be irresistible. I find the staff to always be knowledgeable, right down to every ingredient in a dish, and very friendly and willing to please. The open kitchen is always fun to watch as the chefs go through their paces. Some may finding parking challenging, especially in the warmer months when Newburyport is buzzing. The downstairs restrooms are well done and really not an inconvenience to most. We find MOG to be a very stable, high end dining experience, that offers many things that are not the norm in town.

“Worth the drive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

My family and I ate here during the summer and while in the area recently, we just had to return.
Visit # 2 was no different than our first visit. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the 1/2 off bar menu. This is by no means your typical pub food selection. The mussels and shrimp scampi Mac and cheese were delicious! Even though you pay 1/2 off you do not get smaller portions and like our first visit the waitstaff were excellent. We are looking forward to visit #3!!

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2013

I have always wanted to go the this beautiful downtown Newburyport restaurant. The building is an historic gem and the restaurant décor is terrific if you like the classy steak house look which I do. The bar looks very inviting. But everything else was a disappointment. The service was very poor, everything from drinks to water to appetizers to salads to entrees took forever with our waitperson blaming the kitchen. Our waitperson was either brand new and/or not well trained. It took three hours from start to finish and the restaurant was half empty.. Our mussels appetizer was quite good but the rest of our food was mediocre

“Problems when ordering drinks”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2013

We were a group of 12 family and friends that had dinner last night (Sunday night) at Mission Oak Grill. We have always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere at the restaurant. Last night was different. There were 10 of us having alcoholic drinks. Over 2 1/2 hours, the whole group consumed 14 drinks and 2 bottles of wine. We were not loud or obnoxious, but when a couple of us wanted to have an after-dinner drink, we were were told that they were not comfortable serving us any more alcohol. I can understand if we seemed inebriated, but we weren't. The food was excellent as usual, but being shut off for no reason really put a damper on the whole experience.
