The Black Cow location has a long history in my family as it was one of my parents' favorite places. So for my mother's 90th birthday weekend, it seemed an appropriate place to go. The weather could not have been lovelier--warm and sunny. We had a booth beside a window inside (the deck was full) and it provided some privacy and quiet in the midst of many big graduation and wedding parties.
Our service was attentive, however, and the food very good. My husband's lobster pie, my grilled salmon, and my mother's chowder were all delicious. Only the noise level, due to a large table of 14 beside us, was a bit disturbing, and we did not stay for dessert.
Certainly, we did not pick the best weekend to visit the Black Cow given the crowds, but it was a lively place filled with happy patrons. The dishes were all well-prepared-- we enjoyed them all-- and the location is perfect on the northern riverside with views out to the basin.
