“Overpriced for average food”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

We have been here a couple of times. Some of the dishes we have ordered are good and other just okay. For the prices they charge, everything should be great. On our last visit we order the veal scallopine. Veal was tough and not pounded thin enough and undercooked. Past visits included the baked haddock, which was good, but at over 20.00 should have been excellent. When you charge 25-30 dollar for an entrée the food should be much better. You are definitely paying for the location and atmosphere.

“Overlooks the Merrimack”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

One of a kind restaurant on the waterfront.

The Black Cow is a one of a kind restaurant on the Merrimack River. The restaurant overlooks the water and diners can see ducks and boats while they are eating. The restaurant offers many menu items including seafood and lobster. They also have a large selection of beer and ale. The service was very attentive the staff took the time to answer questions. I would recommend this restaurant.

There is another Black Cow in Hamilton, MA. I cannot offer any review of that location.

“Stop and you will like this place”

Very nice place. Eat outside on the deck and watch the boats come in and out. Very nice.

Food was very good and the service was outstanding. Ask for Kathleen, she's the best!

Will be back.

“Habor views”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

The Black Cow is a wonderful stop on the harbor with fantastic views. We stopped in while driving from MA to ME and it is a perfect place to enjoy Newburyport. The staff is attentive and the decor is wonderful. The food is typical American fair.

“nice lunch overlooking the river”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Usually if a restaurant is on the water with a nice view, the food is average. I found the food at the Black Cow to be a step above average which was a nice surprise. I had the lobster roll without the roll since I need to eat gluten free, and the portion was so large that I couldn't finish it. It came with a salad on the side which was simply dressed with olive oil and lemon, my favorite. My husband had the clam chowder and a caesar salad, both of which were large portions and also very good. I'd return for dinner.
