Hard to know how to review a place I've been patronizing for many, many years before there was a Trip Advisor, but I can say that my buddy and I never consider an alternative when we can schedule a girls' night out. Depending on the season, we variously sit by the fire or at a booth in the corner, sip a vodka collins or an old-fashioned, ask for nachos with chili or without (but always with extra jalapenos), and in any case, consider ourselves fortunate to have in our midst a local pub that's been around since the 19th century - today staffed by several very fine bartenders. Any criticisms on my part would be like finding flaws in my somewhat rumpled but favorite uncle.

Not one of the trendy new bar places but retains the atmosphere of a sailors local pub. Food is good without being spectacular and can at times be inconsistent. Never had to send anything back but sometimes the same things have been much better than at other times. Beer selection is great and they often run beer and burger specials that are great value. If you are looking for a decent place with reasonable prices this is the place to go to in Newburyport.

Beer tasting menu is great. Decor is ancient, especially on second floor, and downright gritty. Stained carpet, in need of paint, framed, warped posters on walls, bathrooms that haven't been renovated in many years, etc. Most food is below average but hamburgers are fine.

This is one of the places that's a must-visit for Newburyport. The atmosphere is great for all sorts of dining, whether it's a date, with friends for lunch, or a night of music. The menu has all sorts of great dishes, but my all-time favorite was a steak with their special rub--dark and with just a hint of sweetness and the meat was perfect. And their brunches are wonderful too.

Love their sweet potato , black bean burrito and their flower arrangements. I have been going there for the last 40 years and have always enjoyed the staff and atmosphere.
