“A Newburyport gem”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

This is a State park with walking trails through meadows, woods and along the Merrimack River. In winter one can cross country ski. In the spring are wildflowers in the woods and along some of the former estate trails. Mountain laurel and rhododendron fill the sides of many of the paths and are spectacular.

“Great Place to Walk 4 Seasons”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Maudsley is a former estate, given to the state many years ago. The carriage trails are well maintained and the remains of the gardens are everywhere.

In the springtime, time things right and you will be amazed by the rhododendrons in bloom. Old mature bushes and trees, the blossoms are just wonderful.

In the summer, walk down to the Merrimac River and take a dip or if you're adventurous, jump off a 10 foot cliff into the water.

Fall colors are especially beautiful here and the winter cross country skiing is a ball.

There is a small fee to park or you can purchase a season's pass. Highly recommended.

“A Pleasant and Pretty Park”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

Maudslay State Park is a former estate that consists of 480 acres of park land mainly used for hiking and biking. It is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). There are miles of trails with really pretty views of rivers, streams, ponds, pine forests, Rhododendrons, and fields with wild flowers. We spent a few hours hiking some of the different trails and enjoying the peace and quiet. We did find some of the trail signs a bit confusing at times and ended up wandering onto other trails, but that was not a major issue. There is a $2.00 parking day use fee and very clean restrooms at the parking lot.

We enjoyed Maudslay State Park alot. I would recommend checking it out. The only reason that I gave it an average is because some of the other parks that I have been to I liked better. I have reviewed a couple of them if you want to check them out. They are Great Brook Farm State Park in Carlisle and the Noanet Woodlands in Dover.
