“Didn't wow me”
Reviewed April 7, 2012

Had read reviews that were glowing so expected more. Nice, friendly place and server was terrific. However food service slow. We sat down at 6:30 and didn't see our entree until 7:20. Place was not crowded at all...maybe 6 other tables seated when we got there.
It did fill up around 7:00. Menu was fine but nothing really grabbed any of us. We all had meals that were ok, I would say adequate. Two were lukewarm and 2 were hot. Portions were average. Read a review somewhere that talked about huge portions...didn't see them. Portions were fine but not huge. Thought prices were a little high for what you got.
We all agreed we would try this place again because the people were so nice and I like to see a neighborhood restaurant succeed. However, I'm with "Just Okay".

“Just okay”
Reviewed March 29, 2012

While the owners and servers were friendly, the service itself was painfully slow. It wasn't just waiting on our entrees, but getting bread and drinks took forever too. The food itself was pretty good, though the menu sort of random and nothing really wowed our group.

“Comfortable, pleasant little restaurant with good food.”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

Located in a small stone building (a converted train station) this is a very pleasant restaurant of modest size. Service is friendly and the host interactive and caring that you had an enjoyable time. The menu is of good size and there is a nice selection of wines by the glass or bottle. From time to time the local commuter train comes by. We made a reservation (Wednesday) for 6:30 and when we arrived there was plenty of seating. When we left near 8 the restaurant was two-thirds full. So, it would seem that a reservation is needed on weekends. We started with a spinach salad, split in the kitchen (without asking) so two of us could share it. Wonderful tender baby spinach, fresh feta and a bit of oil and vinegar with some walnuts. An excellent spinach salad. One ordered baked haddock, good, no complaints. I (and another) ordered salmon, which can stop mashed potatoes, a bit of spinach and some white beans. We were asked how the salmon should be cooked and it arrived as requested. The salmon was tender and tasty and the potato smooth and also tasty. There were nice selections to follow dinner, but we opted for none because we were satisfied. This is a good place and we will return.

“Excellent Meal in Needham”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

Found them on Open Table, had remembered the place there before but never gone in. Tough to find but plenty of free parking around. The husband and wife owners are sweethearts, really nice people and are very passionate about their business. The fresh bread was a great way to start. The bean burger was made in house ( along with most of the food) and was fabulous. Everything from the burgers to the salads was really excellent. Would go back here any time!

“Great little neighborhood place”
Reviewed March 13, 2012

Tucked away in an old stone railroad outbuilding, the Center Cafe was a little hidden gem. The menu is simple and the food is well prepared (try the beef chili, with your choice on the number of alarms it will set off!), and the service makes you feel like you're an old friend, without feeling intrusive.Quiet, relaxed, and the perfect 'prescription' for the end of a work week. Wish this were in MY neighborhood!
