Description: The Beach Plum Restaurant serves unfussy and thoughtful food sourced from the woods and surrounding waters of Martha's Vineyard. We rely on the tight-knit island community of farmers, fisherman, herdsman and family members for the perfect ingredients we use on our menu, which is written daily. Celebrating its second season, the kitchen is run by Chef Chris Fischer, who also operates his family's vegetable farm, Beetlebung Farm, less than a mile down the road.

“Favorite special treat restaurant”

We try to go to Beach Plum every summer at the end of August. It is our end of Martha's Vineyard dining celebration. We always book a few weeks out as we like to sit outside at sunset overlooking Menemsha Harbor. Food is always great. The restaurant sources locally grown ingredients and the seafood can't be beat. Children are welcome, but well behaved children are appreciated. This is not an inexpensive evening. Waitstaff is always pleasant, not always the greatest in attentiveness, but always aiming to please. Bring a sweater as it gets chilly and bug spray as the mosquitoes are brutal.
It is BYOB.

“Save your money & time and skip the trip to the Beach Plum Inn”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2008

We recently chose to dine at the Beach Plum to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we were really looking forward to the experience given the location and the reputation. Overall, the restaurant did not live up to its reputation nor justify the price paid for the service and food received.
Our server, though quite personable and nice, was just not up to the task of creating the kind of experience or delivering the level of service one would expect from this type of restaurant. Her appearance and "uniform" were disheveled, she didn’t seem to be familiar with the menu items - with the exception of the Caesar Salad which she "personally ate every night and is the best in the world", and her attempt at humor to cover her lack of knowledge about that evening’s special entrée seemed clumsy and out of place with the setting.
We ordered Lobster Bisque, the aforementioned Caesar Salad, and Grilled Filet Mignon. While nothing was wrong with any of the items, the taste was just OK. Had we paid $18-20 for the Filet Mignon we would have said it was what you would expect for the price. But at over $40 it certainly was not anything special: the meat was bland and the gorgonzola topping distracting at best. The Lobster Bisque and Caesar Salad were average.
Being located in a dry town the restaurant encourages you to BYOB, which we did and our wine helped make the meal a little more special.
Save your money and your time and skip the drive to Menemsha to dine at the Beach Plum Inn. There are plenty of other fabulous high-end restaurants on Martha’s Vineyard that would deliver a better value and experience for your dollar.

“Worst Dinner I have had in a long time.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2008

I stayed at Menemsha Inn and it was so lovely. Great staff, rooms, and since they also own the Beach Plum Inn and Restaurant, I figured it would be nice to have our first dinner, on our first night of our honeymoon there. I fully expected the bill to be high, but also knew and hoped I would be getting a great experience and dinner.

Dinner was horrible. Waitress rushed us through. She never refilled our water. Bread came half way through the meal! Salad was utterly tasteless at $12 a pop, and my dinner of Halibut was cold, tasteless and extremely overpriced!

I was really disappointed and slightly angry that in one night we blew almost $200 on an average, maybe even below average dinner. I went on to have amazing dinners around the Island, and never even broke $50 for two people. (I'm still really bummed out by my dinner, and it affected the rest of the trip!)

Something needs to be done at Beach Plum Inn. Start by the wait staff. Hire a chef who knows what they are doing!!! And if you have the nerve to charge high prices, then deliver an EXCEPTIONAL meal. Otherwise, you are doing a disservice.
