“Best Zoo in the Area”
Reviewed November 2, 2011

We went during their "Zoo Boo Days" but have been many times before that. This is a great zoo to spend the entire day. A little expensive but they do have coupons on line to print out and there is also a discount for AAA members (just show your card and save $2 per ticket). There is also a calendar on the web site that I check often, as there are specials on certain days (moms free on mothers day), (Dads free on fathers day) etc.. It is also cheaper to bring a cooler with drinks and lunch. There are picnic tables inside to sit on and have lunch. When you are there make sure to visit the deer forest which is the highlight of the day. Bring extra quarters with you as there is a corn machine to feed the deer. The deer will only approach you if you have the corn. Also new this year is the parakeet experience, where you can feed the parakeets! This was great. Make sure you buy the food ($1.00) so the parakeets will land on your hand. My son who is 4 1/2 really enjoyed this. Another big hit with my son is the "Crazy" monkey, known to some as the "Naughty" monkey. We visit yearly and always have a great time!!

“Very nice zoo”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

We chose to visit on Columbus Day weekend. We took advantage of the free admission for my son since he wore his Halloween costume. The weather was really nice and we were able to enjoy a relaxing chair lift ride throughout the zoo. We loved the giraffes and walked through the forest and hand fed the many deer. Definitely worth the drive from Boston. Overall, a wonderful day!

“Tidy zoo, mix of old and new”
Reviewed October 21, 2011

We were pleasantly surprised with our visit to Southwick's zoo. The area immediately upon entry into the zoo is a little bit of a throw back to a zoo of previous eras. However, they've started to invest in bigger enclosures for larger animals (african plain, giraffes, deer, elk, monkey). These are a lot nicer. There is also a sky ride (chair lift) and "train" that will take you to different parts of the park. They have any additional fee but seemed worth it to our party. There are also older amusement park rides oriented towards younger children. Best value here is to purchase ticket packs of ~18 tickets... this is better value than all you can ride. Also, the zoo accepted our AAA card that provided discount.

“A wonderful way to spend a day with young children and old.”

Southwicks Animal Farm as we have know it for many years is a continuin evolving spread out zoo. Ithas awide array of animals from Lions to Rhinoceros and Girrafe, Alligators, Monkees, and on and on. One of the kids favorite parts is the deer area which is many acres in size and has perhaps 100+ or more deer which can be hand fed and petted if you are calm and gentle. It is clean with conveniently located facilities and food services.

This place is pathetic. It is supposed to be the largest zoo in New England...maybe in land mass, but not in exhibits. At he price of $39.95 for each adult ticket, I could have had much better entertainment elsewhere.
It is more of a Kiddy Park with some minor rides and a petting zoo, not a zoo of the caliber in other cities.
Don't waste your money!
