“could use renovations!”
Reviewed August 21, 2006

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and we were pretty disappointed. The pool looked more like a mosquito breeding place- it was full of bugs. Then the exercise room contained 4 machines- 2 treadmills, a bike, and a step machine. When my husband started jogging on the treadmill, I told him he'd better stop before the whole hotel collapses- that's how old and junky the machines were.
The exterior of the hotel looks beautiful, but you shouldn't be fooled by that or the appearance of the lobby. The room was pretty crowded because it was a suite. The paint was peeling in several places on the ceiling. The wallpaper needed some touch-ups, especially in the bathroom.
There are a few good things about the hotel though. It was a very close drive to downtown Boston (that is if you don't get lost along the way). I paid a decent price- $119 a night. Most hotels near Boston were a lot more. It was recently acquired by Hyatt, so if you stay there for a night and join Hyatt Gold Passport (it's free), you get a free night stay at any Amerisuites. Even though it's Hyatt, the service is not like Hyatt service. When I couldn't figure out how to use the free wi-fi with my laptop, the guy at the front desk was going to come up to our room to set it up for me. The number that they gave me for wi-fi service was disconnected.
I would recommend the hotel only for its location. Otherwise, I'd say: STAY AWAY!

Stayed at the Amerisuites for the first time in March of 2006. The hotel was very easy to find off Interstate 93. The check-in process was quick and efficient. The hotel offers secure underground parking for free which is a major plus. The garage is accessible to all, but you need a room key to get into the hotel from the garage.

The room itself is very big compared to most of the tiny inner city hotels that I'm accustomed to. The room that we were in had a separate sitting area with a pull out sofa bed, an upholstered chair, plus a desk. The room also included a small kitchen area with a sink, microwave, refrigerator and cabinets. The cabinets were stocked with dishes and silverware.

The toilet and shower areas are separate from the vanity area which to me seems more convenient. The beds are terribly hard and I found it difficult to sleep on, but this was not a big deal. There was not a lot of hallway noise during the night, but like many hotels the walls are thin and you do hear people coming and going.

The free breakfast that is served in the morning is average. I've had better, but for free it's still a good deal. The breakfast included many types of cereal, muffins, bagels, french toast, eggs, sausage, and the big favorite is the belgian waffles. Again there are "no frills" at this hotel so be prepared to have breakfast on a styrofoam plate with plastic utensils.

The hotel is about a 5 minute drive from Wellington Station. The front desk provided us with directions and suggested that we drive our own car rather than rely on the shuttle. The shuttle is not as "available" as the hotel web site leads you to believe. This was not a big deal as the subway station has a huge parking lot. Parking is $3.50 per day. I was pleased that the lot was very well lit and there were always lots of people around. The subway ride into Boston was about 7 minutes on the orange line. The Orange line connects to both the Green Line and the Red Line once you get into Boston so travelling into the City was very easy.

The town of Medford and the area around the hotel was somewhat residential and seemed very safe. There weren't a lot of restaurants near the hotel, but there are convenience stores and gas stations.

I would definitely recommdend this hotel for anyone travelling to Boston on a budget. Again this is a "no frills" hotel so if you are expecting the Ritz don't go here. However, at $94.00 per night with free parking and free breakfast it's tough to beat. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Compared to what you would pay to stay in Boston this hotel is a great value. I would definitely consider staying here again.
